𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐌𝐘 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃! 👌💔

Back in my secondary school days, in my junior school to be precise; I had this very good friend whom I liked a lot. She was one of the most brilliant people I knew, and I always wanted to be like her.

She had people who surrounded her because she was friendly and bold, but I was just shy, reserved, above average, and all. I wasn't totally bad, but I knew I had a lot of things to work on personally.

A day came and she asked me to be her best friend, I was beyond shocked. I was like me Opeyemi Deborah Adeniji, how can she ask me to be her best friend when she could get the very best in school? I was perplexed.

I know many of you might be thinking I had the worse case of inferiority complex, well I wouldn't say it was worse. But it wasn't good either. I looked down on myself a lot because I didn't think I was good enough in anything back then. Sad right?

Well to cut the long story short, we became best friends I was glad. Though I didn't come out of my shell I was bad to be her best friend. She was amazing. Though there were many hurtful things she did that I overlooked because I wanted to remain her friend.

Moving on, we got to Senior Secondary School, she moved to Science and I moved to Art. That was when the pain began🥺

Watch out for Part 2 tomorrow

Lessons my Mum Taught Me part 2 (Don't follow the crowd)

I remember when I was still in Junior Secondary School, I was preparing to go to the Senior Class💞.

My school made counselling compulsory for student before they moved to senior school, they were to come along with their parents☺️.

I remember my Mum and I went to meet the school counselor concerning my next class. Before that moment I had made up my mind to go to Science Class partly because my 3 closest friends were all there, and my Childhood desire to be a Doctor 😅

During the course of the session, my Mum faced me and said;

"Opeyemi I know you well, your grades in science related courses in Junior school is good, you can easily pass through science class without any issue but I realized you love writing stories;"

"I realized you love reading books, I realized you can spend hours reading novels and composing story books rather than solving math. You will easily blend in the Arts than Science. I'm not forcing you but I believe you will bring out your potential more in Arts than Science"

"Don't compare yourself with your friends, do what is right for you, you're all different with different goals and destination. The ball is in your court" She said with an amazing smile in her face

I thought deeply about it and finally decided on choosing Arts. My 3 friends didn't really associate with me again when they found out but I didn't care. I took the best advice from my Mum. She said it wasn't because I wasn't smart but I would do better in Arts.

I pressed forward and kept thinking her for giving me the push in Arts Class. I had an amazing year in Secondary school and I was grateful I wasn't a Science Student because I had issues with my math, but I was able to scale through

Now I'm a Law Student doing well. She taught me not to follow the crowd, she taught me to be unique. She taught me to follow my heart. I'm grateful to God for her

I wish parents could watch their children closely and ensure they follow the path they truly desire and want instead of forcing them to study a course. Their kids will forever love them, don't force your child to study a particular course.

Be an encourager and support them, if you feel you need to encourage them to do a course you believe will be best for them let them also realize it too so that it will not be a problem later

I learnt not to follow the crowd and it paid me in the long run. Thanks for reading🥰

LESSONS MY MUM TAUGHT ME PART 1
DON'T JUST TALK, THINK!!!!

I remember one of the words my mum occasionally said to me was "Opeyemi maa ronu koto soro" meaning Opeyemi always think before you speak.

You see, growing up I usually say stuffs before I finally realize the consequences of what I have said. There were many things I wanted to say, but said the wrong way due to how I structured my words.

This things led me into trouble with one person or the other as I ended up hurting some people with my words even when I didn't intend to. I even had that issue with both my parents, especially my mum, in which they occasionally corrected me.

One day my Mum sat me down and explained to me why it was important to think before uttering any word. She said learning how to talk properly is a very vital skill that helps people at large.

She told me stories of certain people who missed opportunities due to how little they took the importance of words and lost what would have helped them in life.

She also said you never know who is who. The person you insulted today or spoke rudely of could be the answer to that prayer you've been praying for a long time.

Last by not the least, she stated that the words of your mouth will let people who haven't met you before know the kind of person you are and judge you based on that no matter how brilliant you seem to be.

Rather one should let his/her speech be seasoned with salt, just like the Bible says, and let your words Glorify God in Heaven.

She said even when people hurt you, yes it's difficult to be quiet, but think reasonably before saying anything because once the words come out of your mouth it can't be taken back.

Trust me my Mum never saw anything that was wrong and kept quiet about it, she spoke. She is known for justice. But when she did, words of wisdom came out of her mouth which will leave you in awe.

It was no surprise she was a great wife, mother, leader and mentor. I learnt a lot of things about how to properly structure your words from her, and my Dad also.

This is still something I am grateful to God for about her. I hope you learn something from this exceptional woman.
