🇺🇸 LATEST U.S. FAMILY IMMIGRATION UPDATE: WHAT NIGERIANS NEED TO KNOW
There has been a lot of attention around the recent report that the United States has outlined two family visa options for permanent residence.
But what exactly does this mean?

🇺🇸 TWO MAIN FAMILY-BASED ROUTES TO U.S. PERMANENT RESIDENCE
The United States allows certain relatives of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders) to immigrate to the U.S. and eventually obtain permanent residence (Green Card) through family sponsorship.
These are broadly divided into:
1️⃣ IMMEDIATE RELATIVE VISAS
This is generally the more favourable family-sponsored route because there is no annual numerical limit on these visas.
It applies to certain close relatives of U.S. citizens, including:

But if the person's F4 priority date is 2015, it would not yet be current under that particular September 2026 cut-off.

There is no new "Nigeria family visa" being introduced.
The recent report is essentially explaining the existing U.S. family-based immigration system and the current Visa Bulletin.

🚨 DON'T MAKE THIS COMMON MISTAKE
Having a relative in America does not automatically give you a U.S. visa or Green Card.
The relationship must qualify under U.S. immigration law, the petitioner must meet the requirements, the appropriate petition must be filed, and the beneficiary must satisfy the immigration requirements.
Also, having a U.S. citizen sibling does not put you in the Immediate Relative category.
