BREAKING: Terrorists Invade Catholic School in Niger State, Kidnap Dozens of Students — Five Days After Kebbi Attack
Niger State, Nigeria. Panic has spread across the Papiri community in Agwara Local Government Area after armed men stormed St. Mary’s Catholic School in the early hours of Friday, abducting dozens of students and staff in yet another devastating attack on Nigeria’s education system.
The attackers, believed to be terrorists operating within the region, reportedly invaded the school between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., overpowering local vigilantes before breaking into the students’ hostels. Multiple sources say over 50 students were taken, while some unconfirmed reports claim the figure may be even higher as authorities race to verify the exact number.
Friday’s incident comes just five days after the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, intensifying fears about worsening insecurity and the renewed targeting of schools by armed groups.
Security operatives, including soldiers and police units, have been deployed to track the kidnappers who are believed to be heading toward forested areas bordering Niger and Kebbi States. The Niger State Government has acknowledged the attack, describing it as “tragic and unacceptable,” adding that rescue efforts are already underway.
The Catholic community and parents of the abducted children are devastated, with many expressing fear that schools are no longer safe. A Catholic Bishop, reacting to recent kidnappings, warned that “Nigeria is becoming unsafe for children,” urging government agencies to act decisively before more tragedies unfold.
As the nation reels from yet another assault on innocent students, calls are growing louder for the federal government to implement stronger protection measures for schools in vulnerable regions.
