What is green marketing?

Many think that it is only about selling a product that has some apparent benefit to nature. In reality, just like the field of marketing itself, it is much more complex. Let’s break it down.

We define green marketing as an exchange and promotion of environmentally and socially sustainable products and services that not only satisfy the needs of consumers but also considers the longevity of natural resources.

It is a misconception that the only difference between traditional and green marketing is the ‘’green” product at hand and an eco-label on the package. The truth is, the whole company must be committed to integrating sustainability in their practices, and, as a result, they are able to present their products and accomplishments as sustainable.

Transparency, authenticity, integrity, and commitment are only a few among the things that enable a company to promote themselves as sustainable responsibly.

After speaking to a few flexitarians, now we have some suggestions for you on how to successfully transition to a flexitarian diet.

First of all, start with small steps. Tweak your diet little by little. Every week, seek to replace one meat product with a plant-based substitute, for example chicken filet for tofu, meatballs for falafel, minced beef for beans/lentils, or simply vegetables with similar texture.

Another small step that you can take is to reduce the amount of meat that you already use. If you used to have 500 gr of minced beef in your spaghetti, try to use only 200gr and replace the rest with vegetables.

Also, don’t forget to celebrate the little things that you already do! Changing habits is a difficult thing and it takes time to get used to.

Today we want to share with you some kitchen tips and their benefits:

1. Use the products you have before going to buy other ones - this way, you avoid unnecessary waste.
2. Keep your leftovers and eat them as lunch or freeze them for later - meal prepping saves time and ensures you always have something to eat.
3. Cook more meals yourself instead of getting take-out or pre-packed meals - you become aware of what is in your meals and eat healthier, it costs less money, and creates less waste. Also, learn different dishes and surprise your close ones with cooking skills!
4. Avoid food in plastic packages as much as possible - reduce the amount of microplastics that end up in your body as well as decrease the overall waste.

These are only some of the tips that we have for you. If you want to know more, check out our full guide with this link: https://yoursustainabilityguide.com/guide-leeuwarden-2022/?fbclid=IwAR1LIVilm1trMe3VZN-9MNLvlQTkrlS4LM4Y2cqo2aGiv3WvppRL_NaIrTU

Did you know that every single day the average person uses 119,2 liters of water for themselves?

This massive number can be divided into 6 categories; showering (50 litres) flushing the toilet (35 litres), the washing machine (15 litres), washbasin (5 litres) and several more small sources of water usage.

There’s many easy steps you can take to limit this waste for yourself, for instance getting a WaterSense certified showerhead or a duel-flush toilet.
If you want to make a small change without spending money, try taking shorter showers, only run full loads of laundry and try to reuse water wherever you can!

Plastic bottles – we all know they’re a detriment to the environment. According to some studies, one person uses 156 plastic bottles per year.

The Dutch government is actually currently working on plans to boost the amount of recycled material used in manufacturing in its 2050 Circularity plan.
The plan states that in 30 years time, the use of metals, plastics and other non-organic materials must be cut by 50%.

What can you do to help this process?
Since the average person spends the biggest part of their days at work, most of the plastic bottles and cups will be used there. How about bringing your own mug to work? Or a reusable water bottle? This would drastically be lessening the amount of trash you personally waste on a day to day basis.

Did you know that every year, employees print roughly 10 000 pages on average?

This isn’t just bad for the environment, but it also costs a bit of money. This amounts up to 598,35 euro per year.

Now, instead of printing out single pages, if you would go for double printing instead, both of these numbers would be cut in half. It would be more environmentally friendly and it would save either you, or the company quite a bit of money.
