DIY your menu? Fine. Just don’t skip this one step.
I see it constantly. A menu looks perfect on screen, gets printed, and nobody checks how it reads in the actual room. Dim lighting, candles, evening service — suddenly customers are squinting or reaching for their phone flashlight.
Design isn’t done when it looks good in Figma. It’s done when it works in the real environment, for the real person holding it.

Why tf do people insist on using AI generated posters and images. I get that it’s cheap, but it doesn’t solve your problem, it just moves it somewhere else. People get confused. The info that should be front and center ends up mixed in with a bunch of details that don’t matter. Too much going on. Too confusing. Your eye doesn’t know where to look.

Packaging is not decoration. It is the last five seconds of the experience before someone touches what you made. A box that feels considered says something about everything inside it. People forget most of what they see. They remember what they held.

I wanted something small. One of those little things you slip into your bag and forget about. Ninety euros later, nine hundred kroner later, I end up with the last one left in stock, and it weighs three kilos. I had to drag it around Oslo like some kind of punishment.
The woman at the shop won me over with this whole story and I don’t even know what else, and there I was nodding along thinking sure sure of course, just take my wallet already.
Lorenzo carried it on his back all day and he’s still complaining about it. Me, I already know: it’s the most beautiful thing I own.

I’m not entirely sure why I’m posting this. It has nothing to do with what I’m supposed to post, there’s no brand to show, no client to thank. It’s just me and Lorenzo painting ceramics on an afternoon that felt made for doing absolutely nothing productive.
But then I realize that’s probably the whole point. Behind every project you see there’s a pile of hours like this, where we’re not working but we’re still, somehow, doing exactly what we love doing. Looking closely, noticing details, laughing at our own nonsense.
No useful content today. Just this.

You placed your prices at random. Probably in a neat column on the right, because that is what menus have always done. But that column is a price list, and price lists make people compare numbers instead of reading dishes. Your customer scans 189, 215, 245 and orders the cheapest thing that sounds acceptable. The fix costs nothing. Price after the description, same size as the text, no dotted line leading to it. The dish becomes the decision and the number becomes a detail. This is one of the first things I change on every menu I redesign, and owners notice the difference in the till, not in the compliments. Save this for your next reprint. Comment MENU and I will look at yours and tell you the first thing I would move.

Il mio partner aveva bisogno di flyer per il suo studio fotografico. Budget: quasi zero. Soluzione: farli in casa, io contro la stampante.
Ho litigato con quella macchina più che con chiunque altro questo mese. Ma guardate come sono venuti.
A volte il budget ridotto ti costringe a essere più creativo, non meno.

People decide what you are worth in two seconds, before they try anything. They look at your logo, your packaging, your page, and they price you in their head. So if your prices grew but your brand stayed the same, there is a gap. The price says premium, the look says budget, and people trust the look. That is why your best work stays a secret. If your business outgrew how it looks, write me the word brand in DM and I will show you where the gap is showing.

The most beautiful place in the world is invisible if the outside gives no one a reason to stop. It is not your location. It is that half second when someone decides you are not for them. If your own street feels like it walks right past you, write me the word brand in DM. I will tell you the first thing I would change. No charge, no pitch.

You picked your font at random. Maybe it came with the template, maybe it just looked nice. But every font whispers a price before anyone reads a word. The same croissant costs 25 kroner in one font and 55 in another, and your customers hear it instantly even if they could never explain why. The fix is simple. Pick one font that matches the prices you actually want to charge, and use it everywhere, the sign, the menu, the stories. One decision, made once, working every day. Save this for the next time you open Canva. Comment FONT and I will tell you what your current one is whispering.
