Hi 👋🏼 I’m Monique and I started Zabi Social Media, a boutique marketing agency back in 2018. In 2020 I took a few years off to have children and now I’m back and my books are open for clients! I have a BCom in Marketing and almost 15 years marketing experience across brand management, digital marketing and social media working for L’Oreal both in Australia and New Zealand, Bremworth and Escea to name a few. Having your account hacked is one of those things you don’t think will happen to you, but if it does you could lose all your followers and your income or business if you are an influencer. I have spoken to Facebook about this as hacking has increased and the hacking usually happens through the email address that is linked to the account (old hotmail addresses are more at risk). Facebook recommend changing passwords regularly and to turn on Two Factor Identification on IG and FB and your email address. This is a security feature that requires you to enter a special login code when logging on from a device they don’t recognise. Always check who are listed as admin on your page or Business Manager and make sure every person has the right security measures in place. I know of 2 businesses that recently got hacked. One on Facebook where an ad was set up with a spend of $680,000 the other lost their entire Instagram account and it wasn’t able to be retrieved. Instagram are trialling an update where you will no longer be able to see the following activity tab. This means you will not be able to see the accounts the people you follow have recently followed and the posts they have recently liked. Users are quite upset about this change. I don't use this personally but for a business it is helpful to see what the people you follow like and engage with to help build your strategy. Removing the like count earlier this year was unfortunately less about mental health of the users and more about increasing use on Instagram. Instagram is a business and the removing of like counts has allowed people and brands to focus on real time posting and posting more authentic posts worrying less about the number of likes they get. (Remember the days when if you didn’t get a certain number of likes within a certain amount of time you would delete the post?) So what this now means is there is more posts on Instagram and therefore your ability to see all of these posts has decreased (slide across to see results from a recent study of Instagram engagement) Have you noticed your engagement decreasing since May? @ Christchurch, New Zealand

SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT: Posting content on social media is only a small piece of the puzzle. What is often overlooked is the community management. Liking, commenting, answering questions and being part of conversations is the most important part! I recommend allocating time every day to community management.

Unfollow Instagram accounts that you don’t like to look at or that don’t serve you anymore. Sounds easy right? But so many people follow others that trigger them, make them feel down, make them compare themselves, make them feel jealous or simply don’t add value to their life. About 6 months ago I unfollowed thousands of accounts both on here and on It took ages, I accidentally unfollowed people I didn’t mean to (sorry!) but my feed is now a place I enjoy. I love all the content I see and it adds value to my life in someway. Whether it’s a life coach sharing advice, a foodie sharing the best places to eat or a babe that shares her amazing style. I am inspired and enjoy my feed and I’m not just following people because they are following me or because everyone else is following them. Have you had a clear out or is it on your list of things to do?
