I thought I would embarked on a series of brand case studies for my favourite local businesses, and I’m starting the series with Town & Country Cafe in Featherston. In my honest opinion, they offer the best fish and chips in town with exceptional customer service.
For this conceptual redesign, I developed a playful mascot—a coffee-sipping fish—to bridge the gap between the business’s two core identities: the morning cafe and the evening takeaway. To ground the brand in its local roots, I paired this character with traditional typography that reflects the heritage of Featherston. I opted for a high-contrast, two-tone colour palette to ensure the brand is instantly recognisable and eye-catching for passing traffic.
I chose a predominantly blue palette with a crisp white logo to create a look that feels clean and calming. Since we’re a bit inland, the blue serves as a fresh nod to the “ocean” side of the menu. It’s a timeless combo that makes the shopfront stand out from the street, inviting the community to slow down and stay a while.
