ELECTION JOBS
Tens of thousands of New Zealanders are expected to apply to work in the 2026 General Election as recruitment gets under way today.
The Electoral Commission NZ will need more than 22,000 people across the country to help deliver this year’s general election.
“An election depends on local communities participating, including being part of the election workforce. If you want to support your local community to have their say then please apply,” says chief electoral officer Karl Le Quesne.
The commission is looking for people who have attention to detail, are organised and efficient, and are excited to be part of the election team.
A variety of roles are available ranging from greeting voters in a voting place, issuing votes, logistical support, and administrative tasks in an office.
“These aren’t voluntary roles, they are paid and full training is provided,” Karl says. “You can work full-time, part-time, or even just for a day.
“There are opportunities that could suit students and other people in our communities looking for some work experience. You get to be part of one of New Zealand’s most important events and also build your CV.
“Many New Zealanders return to work for us during election years and we would also love to hear from them again.”
Applicants can register and apply for roles through www.work.elections.nz
