NEW WORK! Sawmill Brewery + Sarah Jane Blake + Doug's

Growing up as Sir Peter Blake's daughter, Sarah-Jane Blake has the ocean running through her veins. Also an artist, Sarah-Jane uses her work to raise awareness for marine conservation. With SJ's artwork, inspired by The Hauraki Gulf/Tīkapa Moana, Sawmill enlisted us to make some extra-special Mighty T-shirts. $10 from every t-shirt is donated to marine conservation via Blake NZ.

Doug’s X Pat Menzies — a co-production of limited product, designed for Doug's Mighty T-shirt and to radiate Pat’s legacy.

Pat Menzies is no stranger to New Zealand, spearheading Auckland's shoe revolution in 1975 — being the the first to bring Dr. Marten’s, Converse and Vans to the country. Pat developed their Queen Street location to house the whole operation — their retail store, an inner city warehouse, offices, dispatch and more recently a Converse concept store. Pat didn't stop there. He built a thriving business, a customer base that spans generations and a rich, important, kiwi legacy.

We were given access to some of Pat's archive, navigating newspaper clippings, original shop signs, hand-written notes and shoe boxes. Using the archive, we worked with artist Riley Karl to design a t-shirt that pays homage to Pat. We think we've done it.

Worn here by Pat himself and his trusty sidekick Andy. Having both set the groundwork for Auckland’s most iconic shoe store (and collectively working 80 years for the business), it’s only appropriate they were the first to wear them. Pat is 6’2 and wears XL, Andy is 5’9 and wears L.

About Doug’s

Doug's is a sustainable embroidery studio, encouraging the world to upgrade our existing clothing - instead of buying brand new.

Doug's was created in mid 2018 as a tool to teach the importance of reusing and up-cycling. We believe in upgrading clothes, rather than buying more. Every year, 85% of used clothing ends up in landfills and less than 1% of clothing is truly recycled. With companies continuing to burn unsold garments, we're focussed on re-earthing & re-discovering our increasingly over filled wardrobes & op shops, in an effort to reuse the resource right in front of us. As a small and local solution, we're here to be part of the change to repair our fast fashion industry. Located and made in Auckland, New Zealand, our products are proudly handmade by an extensive production team of one. All our products are made from second-hand clothing, locally sourced materials, organic cotton and tree-derived thread. We're helping plant trees too - right here in the Auckland region.
