I'm not encouraging you to give up on email but if you're thinking about it, pause and ask yourself the questions in this post.

Once you’ve addressed these questions, it should be easier for you to decide whether email is the right channel to keep going with.

It’s worth it before giving up on one of the most reliable assets you own

1️⃣ Are your automated sequences setup and working to nurture leads while you focus on other things?
2️⃣ What are your open rates, click rates, and conversion rates telling you?
3️⃣ Are you segmenting your subscribers, or are you sending the exact same email to everyone?
4️⃣ Are your emails all about promoting you? Or are they a mix of educational, entertainment and promotional emails?

Only you can decide if email marketing is for you, how often you can sustainably email and if it's worth going.

But one thing I can say is your website and email list are assets that you have more control over than others.

Coach, Mentor, Therapist…? If you don’t fit in a box then welcome to the club. 🦄

None of those titles fit me but after watching her recent workshop I was keen to explore this topic further with someone who works in this realm.

I had a great convo with Dr. Suzanne Henwood, a neuroscience-based coach, to talk about how coaching is changing in 2026. The reality is that the most effective work often happens in the grey space between these labels.

Out of that conversation she has a guest blog on tiffanydigital.co.nz.

If you are a coach trying to articulate your value, this ambiguity can feel overwhelming. It makes it hard to talk about what you actually do without sounding confusing or over-promising.

In our conversation, Suzanne breaks down her thoughts on the industry that has helped so many New Zealanders through a lens of boundaries, her approach and some risks as well.

If you’re feeling the tension between wanting to be flexible and needing to be clear in your marketing, this is for you.

Check the link in my bio to read the full conversation or watch the video.

When you speak directly to a specific person then your content and messaging builds connection (and avoids the meh feeling)

If someone can't see themselves in your content then they'll swipe on.

Here's an example:

If you don't like fruit then I have some ideas for you

😴

Compare that to:

If the texture of a floury apple has you gagging, then here are 3 texture-friendly dessert recipes you can try. Your school-aged kids will stop nagging you for sugar-laden ice cream that makes them bounce off the walls. And you'll feel good with tasty after-dinner treat that doesn't make you gag.

See the specificity.

Here's a business example:

If you want to grow your business online, then here are some tips.

Boooring 😴

Compare that to:

If your a life coach with a coaching calendar has more empty slots than booked calls and the thought of posting another tips and tricks reel makes you want to throw your phone across the room, then this email sequence will help.

It's a three-step email sequence to nudge your current subscribers who are struggling to get out of bed in the morning to reach out today. Because your business needs paying clients ready to follow through and they are about to quit their job and spiral.

Yes it's longer. If I edit it then I could cut it down but the important thing is I've specified who it's for, who they serve, the problem it solves and what it involves.

Now you may notice I didn't use the approach with this carousel. On purpose. I could have been more specific.

Feel free to practice on rewriting one of my slides to help it sound more specific.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with in the comments. 👇

You think that you should sound professional in your emails because you're a professional service provider (like a mortgage broker or accountant).

But that is creating a barrier between you and your audience.

There's no personality and if they meet you they'll be asking you why your emails are so cold.

I get it. I've come from Science and Marketing careers where acronyms and industry language are natural everyday language for colleages.

But your clients will be confused. Or worse, feel like you think you're trying to sound smart or superior.

You're better off leaning into your natural voice. The one you save for your friends.

You don't need to drop Fbom*s if you don't want to or feel it's unprofessional.

But you're better off talking about fit than synergistic alignment or brand recall, FBT or LVR. A random word salad for most I know. Or just me 😅?

Besides it's easier to read even if your audience happen to know a bit of jargon or tech speak.

Or do you want your service providers to bamboozle you with their vocab? 🤣

Double tap if you liked this or message TONEOFVOICE if you want something to help.

Raise your hand if you've been known to push yourself too hard. 🙋‍♀️

It's good to be an ambitious woman. But if the wheels start falling off then it's not really sustainable.

If you keep pushing then you're more likely to end up in burnout. And you really don't want that.

You want an intentional, sustainable system that doesn't add to your mental load.

Have you thought you couldn't send emails it's because not what you're good at?

You might tell yourself you aren't good at writing, or you haven't found the right template or prompt... or whatever your brain throws in your way.

But what if the issue isn't about the words? What if it's because the strategy you're using isn't built to reflect your actual values or life?

If you want to talk about what a strategy that does fit your life and values looks like then message me SIMPLESTRATEGY.

I'll send you a free resource to help.

Hey,

I have a favour to ask. I'm a marketer with less than 100 followers which means I can't go live on Facebook so that's something I'd like to fix. 🫣

If you can share one of my semi-recent posts I'd be hugely grateful.

I'm not saying it's easy but it doesn't need to be as hard as your making it out to be in your head.

Email marketing doesn't need to be another thing you add to your plate.

Some people woukd rather eat a 5 day old meat lovers pizza slice than send emails.

If that's you then no worries, scroll away.

But if the only thing holding you back from email is fear that it's going to be too much then I'll hapilly suggest some ways to make it easier.

Message SMARTER26 to and I'll share my ideas.

Too many email ideas?

Yep, it's a thing.

You have choices to make. You can plan first or prioritise after. Or combine the two.

I prefer the strategy but if it's not email (which I have a strategy and plan for) and you don't have a plan you use this:

The eisenhower matrix.

You brain dump down your ideas then sort them into urgent and non urgent AND important and not important. Then draw your grid and sort them using the matrix I've shown you in this post.

I also use this for lead magnets as well. It's always better to have a strategy first. But if you're overwhelmed with ideas this can be a simple way forward.

Helpful but no questions? Drop a 🔥
Helpful and have a question? Comment Strategy (no automation) and I'll message you to find out more about your question.

What I'm doing (and not doing) this Mothers Day as an email marketer with kids

Working, it's a Sunday anyway
Sending emails manually (I prefer to work smarter not harder)

I'll be spending time with my kids and getting a much needed sleep in.

I hope you get spoiled, or at least a cuppa and cuddle.

Happy Mothers Day New Zealand
