Instagram is changing all the time with all its updates and Instagram's Algorithms were a secret, until back in May this year the Head of Instagram posted about how the Instagram Algorithms work and its ranking signals. With Reels one of the things the Reel Algorithm takes into consideration is Watch Time.

Aim to get 100% Watch Time on Reels

Watch time is how likely your audience watches a Reel the whole way through. So, the longer your Reels are watched and the longer you can hold people's attention, this signals to the Algorithm that people might like your Reel. And because the algorithm is calculating how long people watch your Reels for, this means you should really try and make your video Reels as short as they need to be in order to try and get it as close to 100% Watch Time.

Tips to increase Watch Time of your Reels:

- Use an exciting hook at the very beginning of the Reel to capture people's attention and stop them scrolling.

- Reduce Reel video duration so they watch 100% of the Reel and push the bulk of your information for the post into the captions

- Use transitions in the 1st 3 seconds

- Cut the video into multiple parts

- On talking Reels, try changing backgrounds to keep audiences attention.

Are you manually doing searches in Google to see how your site is ranking for certain keyword phrases? If so I just want to let you know that...

If you are logged into your Google Account e.g. Gmail Account and you do a search, then Google tailors the search results differently for you depending on what you've searched for before. So if your logged in then Google personalises your search results for you, and to the results you found most relevant in the past. They do this through Google's search history.

So, if you type in the keywords 'Photographer Tauranga', and you are logged into your Google Account you can't rely on, or think that you are in a certain ranking position in Google by doing a search and looking at what position you are in the search engine results, because as said above they personalise the results you are seeing for you based on your previous browsing history.

A way of getting around Google's search history bias is to turn off Google's ability to track your online history by doing an Incognito search in your browser instead. This will give you a more accurate view of your websites position in the search results for whatever keyword phrase/s you've entered.
