Mayor Benjamin Magalong has issued Executive Order No. 67, series of 2026, temporarily suspending the implementation of the Baguio City Number Coding Ordinance for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) from May 28 to August 28, 2026.

The extension temporarily suspends Ordinance No. 94-2025, which amended Ordinance No. 001-2003, and serves as a provisional relief measure for PUJ operators and drivers facing operational challenges brought about by the ongoing fuel crisis.

In the order, the mayor said the suspension serves as a short-term measure to further monitor and assess the effects of lifting the number coding ordinance on public mobility, traffic management, and the overall transport situation within the city.

PUJs were previously exempted from the number coding scheme in response to transportation difficulties caused by rising fuel prices.

Mayor Magalong cited provisions in the ordinance that allow the suspension of the scheme during extraordinary circumstances, such as natural calamities or public disturbances.

According to the mayor, the increase in fuel costs has forced many public utility drivers to reduce or cease operations, resulting in fewer available rides and inconvenience for commuters traveling to work, school, and other essential destinations.

The mayor emphasized that the current suspension is an interim measure intended to help ease mobility for residents while the city continues to evaluate its impact on traffic conditions. – JM Samidan
