Since today is Dr. Jose Rizal's 128th death anniversary, let's take a look at some of the notable works and his legacy throughout the life that he had lived.

Dr. Jose P. Rizal, also known as Pepe, is the national hero of the Philippines. During the Spanish colonial era, he was battling the injustices that the Spaniards dealt with the Filipinos back then. He was considered excommunicated and subversive because he wrote his two famous novels, entitled Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) in 1887 and its sequel, El Filibusterismo (The Subversive) in 1891.

Dr. Jose Rizal has different pen names, including laong laan, dimasalang, and may pagasa, as he was a member of La Solidaridad, a newspaper central aiming to achieve peace with the Spaniards. In this organization, many notable names were included, such as Marcel H. Del Pilar, Graciano Lopez Jaena, Antonio Luna, Mariano Ponce, Jose Maria Panganiban, and Dominador Gomez.

Rizal also founded the organization La Liga Filipina back in 1892, and its main purpose is to encourage and unite Filipinos in achieving social, economical, and political reforms through peaceful means.

Rizal's unwavering dedication to justice, independence of the country, and uniting the Filipinos was indeed admirable and worthy of being called the national hero. As we remember his sacrifices and contributions today, may we strive to embody his values and his ideals to continue the prosperity of our country, the Philippines.
