Last month, we hosted the first Creatives Meetup in Butuan. The goal was simple: to unite narratives and stories of the Butuanon creative and find comfort through our intersectional experiences. Instead, we stumbled into several uncomfortable truths:

1. Unstable income, limited opportunities, inconsistent support systems, and the constant pressure to justify the value of creative work make it hard for creatives to position their value in a place where it is alien. Behind every finished project is often a story of uncertainty, sacrifice, and resilience.

2. While creatives recognize the value of AI as a tool, its impact on livelihoods, authorship, and the future of creative professions is very crucial. The consensus was clear: technology should augment human creativity, not replace it.

3. There are very few dedicated spaces where creatives can consistently meet, collaborate, learn, and build together. For many, creative growth happens in isolation rather than within a thriving ecosystem.

4. Finally, belonging is very important for creatives to thrive. Simple because opportunities emerge through relationships. Growth happens through collaboration. And creative work becomes sustainable when people have a community that supports them.

These conversations reinforced something we have long suspected:

A strong creative economy is not built solely by talented individuals. It requires spaces, networks, support systems, and intentional efforts to bring people together.

As a result, one of our first initiatives will be the development of a Local Creative Spaces Directory for Butuan City and the wider Caraga Region. We aim to identify cafés, coworking spaces, creative hubs, co-living spaces, workstations, and other venues that can serve as gathering points for creatives, freelancers, founders, innovators, and community builders.

This is not just about creating a list of places.

It is about mapping the foundations of a stronger creative ecosystem, one where people can find opportunities, discover collaborators, share knowledge, and build meaningful work together.

Our Creative Director, Lex Abellanosa, discussed their insights on AI's place in the global creative industry and a situationer on the local creative scene.

This talk was all about empowering the future marketers and digital workers of Butuan, proving that our local creative pulse has immense value in the global digital market. The city's potential is undeniable, and the next generation is ready to claim their space. 🚀

In case you guys missed it, our founder Cynne stood proud as a second-time speaker, bringing our stories to the global stage!

Amidst rooms thick with technical talk about AI, we found ourselves celebrating the undeniable power of the human spirit. Artificial intelligence can generate answers, but it cannot wonder. In a digital world crowding toward optimized sameness, originality begins at the edges.

Our difference is exactly what gives our work meaning, and that is something to be proud of. We returned home with an energized purpose and a fire to keep building.

His talk will center on local stories of building the foundations for a digital-first economy.

We share this win with those who helped propel Caraga to global heights: DICT Region 13 - Caraga, Butuan City LGU, DTI Caraga, and of course, we're excited to link up again with our friends from the 台灣數位遊牧者協會 (Taiwan Digital Nomad Association).

One Saturday, over coffee at the heart of the city, we sat down and talked about the uncomfortable parts of the creative industry. From AI to pricing, burnout to staying relevant, stories were shared and perspectives challenged.

Under Butuan City’s heat, over 40 creatives showed up not just to listen but to connect, question, and reflect.

We started this because being creative can feel isolating. Like you’re figuring everything out on your own. We wanted to build a harbor. A space where people can come together, share, and realize they’re not alone.

In a region where creatives often lack resources, support, and recognition, spaces like this matter more than ever.

We’re more than happy to pioneer something like this. And this is only the beginning.
