VG CLARICE REMINDS US TO LET OUR YOUNG PEOPLE KNOW WE ARE HERE

Vice Governor Clarice Jubahib expressed her full support for Governor Edwin Jubahib’s call for collective action following the tragic shooting at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School.

As a young legislator with a strong concern for the welfare of young people, VG Clarice stressed that protecting the youth should not begin only when tragedy happens. It starts with simple but meaningful actions that can be practiced every day - listening, providing guidance, staying involved and creating safer homes, schools and communities.

“I stand with Governor Jubahib’s call for action. Caring for our young people begins with what we can do every day - listen, guide, stay involved, and make our homes, schools and communities safer for them. Protecting the youth is a responsibility we all share,” she said.

Her message supports the Governor’s call for closer coordination among law enforcement agencies, local governments, barangays and school authorities; a review of school security measures; responsible firearm ownership; stronger parental guidance and supervision; and a careful, evidence-based discussion on the country’s laws concerning juvenile responsibility.

For VG Clarice, however, protecting young people goes beyond policies and security measures. As a young leader and an older sister to her siblings, the issue carries a personal dimension. She believes young people need adults who are present, willing to listen and ready to guide them through the challenges they face.

Her message is grounded in something practical: care for the youth must be shown every day, not only after something goes wrong.

Families, schools, communities and government all have a role to play. By listening earlier, guiding consistently and staying involved, society can build a safer and more caring environment where young people can grow, learn and thrive.

AMA NG SUSPEK SA ATENEO SHOOTING, SINIBAK SA PUWESTO SA CUSTOMS POLICE

Sinibak sa puwesto bilang Chief ng Customs Police sa Bureau of Customs-Zamboanga si Lt. Lars Jalani II, ama ng estudyanteng itinuturong suspek sa pamamaril sa Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School noong Agosto 18.
Ayon kay BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, pansamantala siyang inalis sa tungkulin upang matiyak ang patas at malayang imbestigasyon, partikular sa posibleng kapabayaan sa pag-iingat ng armas.
Sinusuri rin ng BOC kung ang baril na ginamit sa insidente ay kabilang sa mga armas na inilabas ng ahensya. Iniutos na rin ang imbentaryo ng lahat ng BOC-issued fi****ms at pagsusuri sa sistema ng pag-iisyu at pag-iingat ng mga ito.
Nilinaw ng BOC na wala pang direktang ebidensiyang nag-uugnay kay Jalani sa pamamaril. Sa insidente, dalawang estudyante ang nasawi.

Davao del Norte Governor Edwin I. Jubahib strongly condemned the shooting at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School campus that claimed the lives of two students, calling the tragedy a painful reminder of the urgent need to protect schools and young people.

Jubahib called on law enforcement agencies, local government units, barangay officials and school authorities to closely coordinate, review existing school security measures and address gaps that could endanger students, teachers and school personnel.

He also stressed responsible firearm ownership and the responsibility of parents and guardians to exercise proper guidance, discipline and supervision over young people. The Governor likewise urged lawmakers to revisit the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act through a careful, evidence-based discussion on criminal responsibility.

He further called on the public to remain calm and vigilant, resist misinformation that could deepen anger and hatred, and uphold compassion and restraint amid the tragedy.

This cannot end with mourning. Government must lead, institutions must act, families must take responsibility, and communities must work together. Protecting our children is a responsibility the entire nation must share.

Nagpahayag ng labis na kalungkutan ang Ateneo de Zamboanga University President Fr. Guillrey Anthony “Ernald” Andal, S.J., matapos ang pamamaril sa kanilang Junior High School campus na ikinasawi ng dalawang estudyante at ikinasugat ng iba.
Nakikipagtulungan ang unibersidad sa Zamboanga City Police Office upang imbestigahan kung paano nakapasok sa campus ang 14-anyos na suspek na may dalang dalawang 9mm na baril sa kabila ng security checks.
Ipinag-utos din ni Fr. Andal ang agarang pagsusuri at paghihigpit sa lahat ng security measures upang maiwasan ang pag-ulit ng insidente.

4 PATAY, 9 SUGATAN SA PAMAMARIL SA ISANG PAARALAN SA ZAMBOANGA

Apat na katao, kabilang ang dalawang security guard at dalawang high school student, ang iniulat na nasawi sa pamamaril sa Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School nitong Martes.

Siyam na estudyante naman ang iniulat na malubhang nasugatan.
Ang suspek ay nakilalang isang fourth-year high school student na may apelyidong Jalani. Iniulat na sangkot sa insidente ang isang G***k 9mm pistol at M16 rifle.

Patuloy ang imbestigasyon ng mga awtoridad.

Agila ng Pilipinas, Nasagip sa Kidapawan City.

Isang juvenile Philippine serpent eagle ang nasagip mula sa rubber plantation sa Sitio Lapan, Barangay Perez, Kidapawan City noong Agosto 4, 2026.
Matapos itong matagpuan ng isang residente, agad itong isinuko sa barangay official at kinabukasan ay kinuha ng PAMO-Mt. Apo Natural Park. Sa pagsusuri, walang malubhang sugat ang ibon ngunit mahina ang kondisyon nito.
Dinala ito sa Temporary Wildlife Rescue Shelter ng PENRO Cotabato sa Barangay Amas para sa patuloy na rehabilitasyon at monitoring hanggang sa tuluyang gumaling at maging handa sa posibleng pagpapakawala sa natural nitong tirahan.
Paalala ng mga awtoridad, bawal alagaan bilang alagang hayop ang wildlife nang walang kaukulang permit sa ilalim ng RA 9147. Hinihikayat ang publiko na agad i-report sa DENR o lokal na pamahalaan ang mga wildlife na sugatan, naliligaw o nasa labas ng kanilang natural na habitat.

LPA SA LABAS NG PAR

Patuloy na binabantayan ng DOST-PAGASA ang Low Pressure Area (LPA) sa labas ng Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) ngayong Sabado, Aug. 15.

Mababa ang tsansa nitong maging bagyo sa susunod na 24 oras at pumasok ng bansa.

Huli itong namataan sa layong 2,270 km silangan ng Extreme Northern Luzon.

BAWAL NA ANG WET WIPES AT SINGLE-USE PLASTICS SA MT. HAMIGUITAN.

Ipinagbawal ng Protected Area Management Office ng Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary ang pagdadala at paggamit ng wet wipes at single-use plastic materials sa loob ng protected area.
Alinsunod ito sa MHRWS-PAMB Resolution No. 2026-20, bilang hakbang para maprotektahan ang kagubatan at mga pinagkukunan ng tubig sa lugar.
Kabilang sa ipinagbabawal ang PET bottles, sachets, disposable cutlery at iba pang single-use plastics. Isasagawa rin ang mandatory pre-climb orientation at mahigpit na baggage inspection bago makapasok.
Ang mga lalabag ay maaaring maparusahan sa ilalim ng RA 9003 at RA 11038.
Ang Mt. Hamiguitan ay isang UNESCO World Heritage Site na kilala sa pygmy forest at mga endemic species, kabilang ang Philippine eagle at Philippine cockatoo.

The Sound of Kadayawan 🪅

Some artists perform for Kadayawan. Others become part of its story.

Over the years, Maan Chua has become a familiar name in Kadayawan’s creative landscape, with her artistry woven into the festival through music, design and performance.

Her Kadayawan story began with Tunog Mindanaw, where she won the grand championship in 2013 with T’nalak, a song inspired by Mindanao’s indigenous heritage.

In 2017, she moved from music to design and won the Habi Kadayawan fashion design competition with Agung, a piece inspired by the Bagobo ahungan, a standing kulintang instrument. The work reflected the same cultural influences found in her music, expressed through another artistic form.

Then, in 2023, her voice became part of the festival’s soundtrack when she performed “Kada-Kadayawan”, the official theme song of the 38th Kadayawan Festival, together with Neil Llanes.

Across these moments, Chua’s work has consistently found a place where contemporary artistry meets Mindanao’s cultural heritage.

Her connection to Kadayawan is therefore not defined by a single performance or creation, but by a series of contributions across different creative disciplines - music, fashion and live performance.

Kadayawan celebrates the abundance of Davao: its harvests, its communities, its cultures and its creative spirit.

And among the artists whose work has become woven into that celebration is Maan Chua - a name that continues to appear in the festival’s evolving story, in ways that can be heard, seen and remembered.
