As of June 30, 2024, there are at least 755 political prisoners in the Philippines, with 103 of them arrested and detained under the Marcos Jr. regime. 102 of them are elderly, 15 of them are NDFP and Staff and 90 of them are sickly. There are also 147 women political prisoners and 4 of them are minors.

The Philippinesโ€™ oldest political prisoner, Gerardo dela Peรฑa, was discharged from the New Bilibid Prison last June 30, 2024 after nearly 12 years of detention. The urgent release was after when human rights organizations launched a persistent campaign demanding his release for both legal and humanitarian reasons such as advanced age and deteriorating health. Dela Peรฑa claimed that he does not understand his case to this day.
