During the start of a musical event at the UP sunken garden, it rained. The ground got muddy quickly. People were still lining up trying to get in. What took 15 minutes to get in easily became at least 45 minutes. At least. Many people were still waiting outside after midnight trying to get in (at least they could hear the music) because the ground was so muddy and hard to walk in and slowed everything down.
But it made me happy to see all this. Because despite the stereotype of the younger generation scrolling social media endlessly, they're also still yearning for physical human connection. Everyone was standing shoulder-to-shoulder listening to the music coming from the main stage, while in the rain and walking in the mud, and nobody was scrolling on their phone. Because when you're with your friends, standing shoulder to shoulder with each other in the real world, sometimes that's all you really need.
