Nilad is a display calligraphic typeface made specifically for this year's Escolta Block Festival by . Nilad is from a name of shrub from which Manila's name is derived. The typeface includes a baybayin set (an ancient script used primarily by the Tagalog people) meant to work seamlessly with its roman counterpart. While Nilad aims to create a fictional world where Manila is untouched by foreign cultures, it also draws influences from the city's past, mixing it with the present, and brings it forward for the future.
