Meet the discussants for the inaugural Juan F. Jamias Annual Lecture on Science Journalism and Science Communication.

Joining the conversation are Dr. Fernando dlC. Paragas, Dr. Laura T. David and Dr. Rex Victor O. Cruz.

Bringing perspectives from communication, environmental science, climate change, and public engagement, the three discussants will help deepen the conversation following the lecture of Dr. Rodel D. Lasco on climate science communication for public action.

The UP Science and Society Program of the UP Diliman College of Science invites everyone to the "Pax Silica: Progress for Whom?" Public Forum on Monday, 19 October 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN at the Institute of Biology Auditorium.

The forum will feature a panel of experts who will discuss issues surrounding the proposed Pax Silica Hub and share their perspectives from their respective fields.

Named in honor of the late Prof. Juan F. Jamias—a pioneering scholar and institution builder who laid the foundations for science journalism and science communication in the Philippines—this annual lecture serves as a flagship platform for scholars, practitioners, educators, and students to engage in dialogue on cutting-edge knowledge and emerging issues at the intersection of science, media, and society.

For this milestone event, we are honored to feature Dr. Rodel Lasco, a renowned climate scientist and the Director of the Oscar M. Lopez Center (OMLC), who will deliver a keynote address examining critical perspectives on climate resilience, environmental communication, and translating scientific research into actionable knowledge for various publics.
