Former Pakistani cricket legend Wasim Akram will serve as a mentor for Sri Lanka's bowlers as they prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Akram, known for his exceptional bowling skills, has arrived in Sri Lanka to conduct a two-day training camp organized by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Having taken over 900 international wickets during his playing career, Akram brings extensive experience to the coaching role. He has previously coached teams in high-profile tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL).
During his tenure, Akram will conduct five sessions, which will include training for national players, SLC High Performance Coaches, and coaches from major clubs. His expertise aims to enhance the bowling capabilities of the Sri Lankan team ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Sri Lanka faced disappointment in the 2022 T20 World Cup, exiting in the group stage after winning only two out of five matches. However, they have the potential to excel, as evidenced by their victory in the 2014 T20 World Cup final against Team India.
