Our Story

MAQ- a marketing communications company with roots nearly as old and deep as the nation itself. Named to pay homage to the Pioneer of Advertising in Pakistan- legendary humanitarian and philanthropist, brilliant author, poet and incredibly eloquent orator, Mir Abdul Qayyum, who started the nation's first advertising agency, Crescent Publicity Service in 1948 (which eventually evolved into the behemoth more fondly recognized as the award-winning Crescent Communications International, or CCI), our ad agency aims to restore rightful recognition to our late grandfather's legacy. Our Core Team comprises of the following versatile individuals: Abdul Waheed Khan- Chairman of MAQ Waheed Khan of A.K. Films & Studios, needs no introduction in the field of Pakistani advertising. As the ultimate insider, with over 3 decades of freelance production and directorial experience resulting in well over a thousand TVCs, and nearly 4 decades of award-winning contributions to the top tier advertising agencies (including the likes of Crescent Communications International, Asiatic-JWT, Orient-McCann, Adcom, Prestige, M.N.J., Mass Advertising, and many others), he brings the true finesse and infallible expertise of a seasoned veteran. Aswad Khan- Chief Executive Officer of MAQ A graduate of Northeastern University (D'Amore-McKim School of Business) in Boston, Aswad studied entrepreneurship, strategic business management and marketing in order to successfully effectuate his new passion project- MAQ Communications, for restoring the rightful family recognition (as grandson of the Pioneer of Advertising in the nation) to Mir Abdul Qayyum. Having inherited a love of the industry from both his maternal and paternal wings, Aswad is a highly cultured, dynamic, advertising enthusiast with a keen eye and a broad, global vision, who passionately believes in the power of education and liberation of society (via creativity!) to be quintessential to the progress and evolution of Pakistan. Tariq Mir- Chief Creative Officer of MAQ MAQ takes immense pride in reintroducing the unequivocally incomparable artistic visionary who single-handedly defined, refined, and revolutionized the nation's advertising with his innovative and iconic campaigns, awe-inspiring productions and countless contributions as a pioneer of communications technology. Tariq Mir- the relentless creative force responsible for the miraculous resurrection and meteoric ascension of some of Pakistan's greatest brands. In his extensive, illustrious career (spanning over 3 decades) as C.E.O, Chief Creative Officer, and TVC director/ producer for C.C.I, Tariq was a jet-setting, emboldened perfectionist, who took unprecedented and fearless strides in establishing national acclaim for several monumental brands, through his hallmark method of creating nostalgic, sentimental and memorable campaigns (including those of Bonanza, Dawlance, Sitara, Sparkle, Shield, Tibet, Mothercare to name a select few.) True to his trend-setting and rule-breaking nature, Tariq was eons ahead of his contemporaries and pioneered the use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) in the late 80s, with his exciting introduction of 3D animation as well as becoming Pakistan's first Photoshop artist, forever changing the face of advertising as we knew it.
