Iran’s state media released a statement reportedly written by Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei on Thursday, warning that Tehran will avenge the blood of its martyrs.

Khamenei – who has not been seen in public since his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on 28 February –vowed to seek revenge after the Minab school attack, in which Iran says 175 people, mostly children, were killed.

In the message read by a state broadcaster, the 56-year-old leader said all US bases in the region should be closed, threatening future attacks.
