A lot of founders get excited when they see ads with:

→ 3-5% CTR
→ Tons of likes, shares, and comments

But here’s the problem: high CTR doesn’t always mean sales.

I’ve audited 50+ ad accounts this year, and here’s the pattern I keep seeing:

Meta loves engagement → so it pushes spend to the “fun” ads… even if those ads barely convert.

Example from an account last month:
→ Ad A: 4% CTR | ROAS 2.5x
→ Ad B: 1.7% CTR | ROAS 6x

Guess which one got 70%+ of the budget?

Yep, the money-loser: Ad A.

Why this happens:
→ Clicky ads attract “browsers,” not buyers.
→ Meta can’t tell clickbait from real purchase intent.

Engagement ≠ revenue.

What to Do Instead:
Track the metrics that actually impact growth:

→ Cost Per Purchase → not just ROAS
→ % of First-Time Customers → new growth > recycled buyers
→ AOV (Average Order Value) → are clicks driving profitable carts?
