What story are you telling yourself about who you are?

Robert Kennedy III and Mick Spiers explored a powerful idea in this episode: sometimes the biggest barrier to becoming a better storyteller is the identity we have already created for ourselves.

"I'm not a storyteller."

"I'm not good at public speaking."

"I'm not confident enough."

These statements can become agreements we make with ourselves.

But those agreements can be changed.

Leaders do not have to wait until they feel like natural storytellers. They can choose to practice. They can choose to improve. They can choose to rewrite the story they tell themselves about what they are capable of.

So here's the question for the audience:

What is one limiting story you've been telling yourself that you are ready to rewrite?

High courage, low connection cultures are transactional. Results matter more than relationships, leading to a 'make a mess, blame' environment. While it can yield short-term results, it's unsustainable due to disengagement and anxiety.

Two weeks ago, I crossed the finish line of the Run Melbourne Half Marathon. 🏅

While the race is over, the reason I ran hasn't changed.

I ran to support Beyond Blue and help raise awareness for mental health because no one should have to face their struggles alone.

One word stayed with me throughout the day: community.

Thousands of people came together to cheer on complete strangers, support one another, and run for causes bigger than themselves. It was a powerful reminder that even when life feels overwhelming, there are people who care.

If you're struggling, please don't keep it to yourself. Reach out to someone you trust or seek support. And if you know someone who might be doing it tough, check in with them. A simple conversation can make a real difference.

The finish line may be behind me, but the mission continues. Every conversation helps break the stigma around mental health, and every donation helps organisations like Beyond Blue continue their important work.

If this cause resonates with you, I'd be grateful for your support through the fundraising link below. Together, we can remind more people that they don't have to face their journey alone. 💙

"You can break that agreement, you can make the choice to break that agreement, you can make the choice to choose a different identity." - Robert Kennedy III

Robert Kennedy III shared this powerful perspective with Mick Spiers when discussing one of the biggest barriers people face in storytelling and leadership: the stories they tell themselves.

Too many people decide who they are before they ever give themselves the chance to grow.

"I'm not a storyteller."

"I'm not a speaker."

"I'm not confident enough."

But identity is not always fixed.

Leaders can choose to challenge the agreements they have made with themselves and create a new story about what they are capable of.

The first step may simply be having the courage to choose differently.
