Communication is constantly changing, from 1 generation to the next.

I'm not afraid to say I don't understand Gen Alpha (Grimace Shake - what in the world is that?!)

But as marketers, our lingo changes with the audience, and we just have to make it work. I had to learn what on fleet meant at one time.

Now I'm learning what "Sheldon Lee Cooper, you dog" means. I showed my age when I replied not in the lingo to some Gen Alphas. I might never live it down with them.

For the best generation lingo, it is always going to be Gen X - just that it isn't for public consumption since it's not NC16.

Comment GenX, and I will send it to you.

Before you think about channels, campaigns, or content calendars, you need to get clear on three things.
Who you're talking to. What problem you solve for them. Why they should choose you over anyone else.

Everything else — the posts, the ads, the emails — only works when those three things are locked in. Without them, you're just adding to the noise.

Clarity first. Always.

I've seen businesses with mediocre content outperform ones with brilliant content. Every time, the reason was the same.
One showed up every week. The other waited until it was perfect.

Your audience needs to see you regularly before they trust you enough to buy from you. A good post that goes out beats a great post that never does.

Done is better than perfect. Ship it.

I've sat across from enough business owners to know that most of them think branding is a design problem. It isn't. It's a consistency problem.

Your logo, your colours, your fonts, those are just the clothes. The brand is everything underneath. How you communicate. How you show up when things go wrong. What you stand for when no one's watching.

Get that right first. The logo can come later.

I built a workflow that made my content faster and more efficient. And then one afternoon I sat back and felt something I wasn't expecting.

The caption was good. Right tone, right length. But I didn't write it.
As marketers we're used to writing in voices that aren't ours. That's the job. But when the words aren't yours either, that's a different kind of strange.

I wrote about it on the blog this week. About the disconnect, about what it means to be a storyteller in a world where AI can approximate your voice. And about why the companies building AI are now paying six-figure salaries for human storytellers.

I built an AI workflow that made me faster and more efficient. Then I sat back and felt something I didn't expect. A reflection on AI in marketing and where the human fits in.

I know I’ve been missing. Been trying to come back to myself, my branding and my writing.

Sometimes things pull me in a million directions, sometimes there are a million paths and I’m just not really moving.
