It is gratifying to note that Mileage Communications’ Chairman, Yap Boh Tiong, has been recognised and inducted into the Singapore Media Industry Hall of Fame by the Singapore Press Club at its 50th Anniversary dinner recently. Yap Boh Tiong founded Mileage Communications 30 years’ ago and grew it to become a leading regional marketing communications agency. As a contribution to the industry, the agency has mentored many interns from the Polytechnics and Universities, both local and overseas.

Boh Tiong also served in the Council of the Institute of Public Relations of Singapore for 12 years, of which he was its President for 8 years. To steer the industry to prominence, he used to conduct lectures for the Institute's courses. In addition, he has served in the advisory committees of two polytechnics such as the Ngee Ann Polytechnic, for the Diploma in Mass Communications, which has produced many noteworthy talents in the Media Industry and the Singapore Polytechnic’s School of Business for 20 years. His other contributions were in the Singapore Fire Prevention Council, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and many more. The award is “in recognition of your outstanding and lasting contributions to the media profession and the industry in Singapore”.

From food poisoning to hotel bombing, to mis-selling of an insurance product and ship collisions, we managed a broad spectrum of incidents for many clients. Most of these incidents attracted national and international media attention but we managed to protect the reputation of these companies.

You can always plan for a crisis, but it is how you respond to one in the moment that makes the difference. Here’s some of our advice on handling a crisis:

For the first time, Mileage Communications held a hybrid version of its Crisis Response and Media Training Workshop last week. The in-person workshop, conducted for Chemikalien Seetransport (CST) Singapore, was livestreamed so that staff in Malaysia could participate virtually together with those in Singapore. Through interactive sessions, the workshop gives participants a taste of possible scenarios in a crisis.

Recently, Mileage Communications held its trademark Crisis Response and Media Training Workshop for CST Singapore, a global vessel owner-operator providing ship owning and ship management services.
