Across Islamic history, this truth repeats itself in the lives of those who transformed. One of the most striking examples of life changing transformation is Imam Fudayl Bin Iyad, author as-Syifa.

Before he became a renowned scholar, he was a feared bandit leader. His reputation was dark, but he still prayed, fasted, and upheld a personal code of honour.

The turning point came one night, during his attempt to raid a caravan, when he overheard the traveller reciting surah al-Hadid (57:16):

“Has the time not come for hearts to soften to the reminder of Allah?”

The verse sparked the defining moment of change within him. However, realising the gap between his actions and his faith, he repented sincerely. He sought out those he had harmed, repaid what he could, asked forgiveness where he couldn’t, and dedicated his life to knowledge and worship. Imam Fudayl then became a symbol of how deeply Allah can transform a soul that turns back to Him.

And this is where the story meets us.

Most people think transformation requires a perfect plan, a clean record or a spiritual moment that feels grand. But Imam Fudayl’s story whispers something subtler, sometimes change begins with one verse that finally lands, one sentence that slips past our defences, one reminder that meets the heart at the right time.

And perhaps the question that reached Imam Fudayl is the same question meant for us today:

“Has the time not come…?”

Comment down, what was your defining moment of transforming your life?

Sometimes when we feel low, the weight of our sins convinces us that we have reached a point of no return. The heart whispers, “This is it. There is no going back.” Yet the Qur’an interrupts that despair with a tender reminder from Allah Himself:

“Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah.
(Az‑Zumar 39:53)

What many forget is who this reassurance first addressed. Surah al-Zumar 39:53 was not revealed to saints untouched by flaws, but to the Prophet’s companions who carried heavy pasts. Some feared that their earlier wrongs would make their Islam unworthy. Their hesitation was human; their fear was real. And it was in that moment that Allah revealed His words of hope to the Prophet ﷺ, reminding them and us, that no past is greater than His forgiveness.

A principle from the scholars says, “Despair is more dangerous than the sin itself.” Because despair closes the door that Allah keeps open.

So what do we do when we fall? We return, even if the return is slow, imperfect, or repeated. Repent. Whisper ‘Astaghfirullah’ even on the days you feel unworthy. Make one sincere dua. Set one small intention. Try again tomorrow.

As long as you breathe, hope remains. Allah’s door does not close, even when our hands shake before knocking. And even then… His mercy still waits.

So never give up, because Allah does not give up on you.
