*Bo residents are unhappy with epileptic EDSA*
By Kakua Express Staff Writer
Residents of Sierra Leone’s second capital have told this medium that they are fed up with the way the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) in Bo is supplying electricity to customers.
Many say they experience intermittent blackouts every two minutes and “that can be extremely annoying. It goes off and on for something like eight times every evening.” According to those who spoke to Kakua Express, they would prefer to be told that there was no electricity in the city so they can prepare very well to have alternative sources.
They accused EDSA of damaging their appliances and causing the food to perish and that constant press releases from EDSA make no sense because absolutely nothing has been put in place to end the frequent power outages in Bo. Businesses and students, especially at Njala University, are finding it difficult to cope with the challenges of electricity in Bo.
Njala University, Bo campus starts examinations this week and the blackout has seriously disrupted preparations for that with students forced to move to other places in search of electricity to study.
Government offices do not operate when there is no light and it’s affecting revenue generation and general service delivery. People are demanding more than an explanation from EDSA.
They want the man in charge of energy Dr. Kandeh Yumkella to visit Bo EDSA control room to know why the power supply has been so epileptic. Continuous power supply was a major manifesto pledge of the SLPP in 2018. It was repeated in 2023 and the government of President Julius Madda Bio now must deliver without any further delay.
It is still unclear when electricity will be sustainable in Bo. The honest position is that Bo should not expect sustainable electricity any time soon from the look of things and it wouldn’t matter who becomes the president or energy minister.
