The Kenema City Hall was abuzz with excitement on February 19, 2026, as the community gathered to honor Mayor Thomas Karimu Bandabla Tagbateh Baio with the prestigious Best Mayor Award. The ceremony was chaired by the Chief Administrator of the kenema city council mr Yambasu, who welcomed a distinguished lineup of guests, including LUC East, AIG East, the Brigade Commander, the Deputy City Mayor, Kenema Town Chief Momoh Ngombulango, former Honourable Francis Amara Konuwa of Constituency 15 Lower Bambara, SLPP Kenema District Chairman Kemson, SLPP Kenema District Women's Leader Madam Hawa Ngeyawao, Drivers Union Chairman, and many more.
The ceremony commenced with remarks from Kemson, the SLPP Kenema District Chairman. He acknowledged the initial skepticism surrounding Mayor Baio's leadership but emphasized how the mayor had silenced critics through remarkable development initiatives. Kemson noted that the progress made during Baio's tenure surpassed that of any other mayor in the country, attributing this success to Baio's long-standing commitment to community development, which began during his time as the Traders Union Chairman.
