Public Appeal for Justice and Peaceful Intervention Between the People of Gberray Limba and Kakatowa the Cattle Rearer

The descendants, landowners, and farmers of Gberray Limba are respectfully calling on the Government of Sierra Leone and all relevant authorities to urgently intervene and ensure justice, fairness, and lasting peace regarding the ongoing dispute involving Kakatowa, a cattle rearer operating within their community.
This appeal is being made in the interest of peace, unity, community stability, and the protection of the livelihoods of the local farming population whose survival depends heavily on agriculture and the proper use of their ancestral lands.
According to reports from the people and farmers of Gberray Limba, the issue began when some youths from the community allegedly destroyed properties belonging to Kakatowa, the cattle rearer. Following the incident, Kakatowa demanded compensation from the community for the damages and losses he claimed to have suffered.
The people of Gberray Limba acknowledged the incident and, despite their limited financial capability, sought peaceful means to resolve the matter without violence or hostility. Community elders, stakeholders, and landowners reportedly engaged in discussions and explained that they were unable to raise the amount of money demanded by Kakatowa as compensation. Instead, they proposed an alternative settlement by offering him land to settle and continue his cattle rearing activities peacefully within the area.
However, according to the community members, Kakatowa initially rejected the offer made by the people and declined to settle on the land provided to him at that time. Following his refusal, the people and stakeholders of Gberray Limba decided to explore another peaceful arrangement to settle the matter completely and avoid any future misunderstanding between both parties.
