Cueibet Football Team Suspended from Bahr El Ghazal Counties Tournament
The Cueibet County Football Team has been disqualified from the Bahr El Ghazal Countiesโ Tournament (BCT) 2nd Edition 2026 following violent incidents that occurred after their match against Twic County Football Team at Munuki Playground in Juba on 16 August 2026.
According to the verdict issued by the Standing Committee on Technical Affairs, supporters associated with Cueibet were found responsible for acts of violence, disorder and chaos following the final whistle.
The committee stated that two Twic players were injured, while some supporters were allegedly beaten and others stabbed with a knife. Chairs at the playground were also reportedly damaged during the unrest.
โฝ Disciplinary Measures
Under the decision, Cueibet County Football Team has been:
- Disqualified from the 2nd Edition of the BCT with immediate effect.
- Fined 5 million SSP under Rule 6(a) of the tournament regulations.
- Fined an additional 3 million SSP under Rule 10(a).
- Captain Marop banned from attending all remaining BCT 2nd Edition matches under Rule 10(c).
The tournament committee said the sanctions were imposed to uphold discipline, fair play and the safety of players, supporters and other participants.
Despite the disqualification, Cueibet County could be re-admitted to the 3rd Edition in 2027, provided the team fulfills the legal and financial obligations imposed by the committee.
The decision comes amid renewed concerns over violence at football tournaments in South Sudan, where similar incidents have previously led to fines, suspensions and match disruptions.
This is a developing story.
