South Sudan will not find peace if we continue waiting for outsiders to rescue us while we keep destroying ourselves from within.
Since 2013 until today, the world has issued countless statements, condemnations, peace agreements, and promises. Yet our people are still dying. Our children are still growing up in fear. Mothers are still mourning. Entire generations are being buried before their future even begins.
Let us speak the truth without fear:
South Sudan is an independent nation. We have our own Constitution, our own leadership, our own responsibility, and our own destiny. Peace cannot be imported. Stability cannot be donated. No foreign power will ever love South Sudan more than South Sudanese themselves.
History already taught us this lesson.
Before independence in 2011, the struggle of the Sudan People's Liberation Army was not won by international statements. It was won through sacrifice, resilience, unity, and painful determination. Blood was shed. Lives were lost. People believed in freedom enough to fight for it.
Even before 1983, our people were already resisting oppression, fighting for dignity, identity, and justice. We survived because we stood for ourselves not because others came to save us.
So today we must ask:
How many more graves must be dug before leaders choose peace over power? How many more children must die before we say enough is enough? How many more communities must burn while politicians continue playing games with people’s lives?
And let us be honest about another dangerous truth
Most of the loudest voices attacking the government today are often people who only discovered “bad leadership” after losing their government positions.
While they were inside the system, they were silent. While they were benefiting, they defended everything. But the moment contracts ended, positions were lost, or power disappeared, suddenly they became “fighters for justice.
Why does truth always come after dismissal? Why does patriotism begin after losing privileges? Who can name even two leaders who resigned on principle because they refused corruption or bad leadership before losing their seat?
Citizens must learn to separate genuine patriotism from political revenge.
Not everyone criticizing government is fighting for the people. Some are simply fighting because they lost access to power.
Real leadership is not speaking after removal. Real leadership is standing for truth while still inside the room.
And let us stop fooling ourselves Facebook wars will not stop bullets. WhatsApp insults will not rebuild destroyed villages. Tribal propaganda online will not feed hungry children. A division on social media only creates more bloodshed on the ground.
South Sudan does not belong to one tribe. It does not belong to one politician. It does not belong to one region. It belongs to all of us.
The youth must protect tomorrow. Leaders must choose nation over self. Citizens must choose truth over manipulation. And all of us must choose peace over pride.
No one is coming to save South Sudan.
We are the rescue. We are the answer. We are the responsibility.
