In a bid to promote the growth of Uganda’s creative sector across different regions, the Uganda Communications Commission has been conducting Regional Film Competitions (RFC) countrywide.
This year, Arua City is hosting the 2026 RFC Awards Gala, scheduled to take place tomorrow, March 20, at Hotel Desert Breeze.
In the lead-up to the main event, a series of community film screenings have been held to engage the public. One screening took place at the OPM Grounds, while another was held today at Arua Public Secondary School.
The screenings are part of efforts to bring film closer to local audiences and provide a platform for regional filmmakers to showcase their work.

When WestNile Cinematic Arts Network - WECAN made a call for passionate filmmakers in to join our first Cohort of the in partnership with , a.k.a was amongst the first females who genuinely showed interest in learning filmmaking behind the camera. On day one of the first phase, we learnt that she stayed close to the border of Uganda and DR. Congo. That's almost a 2/3 hours journey if on foot and close to 30/35 minutes on a bike but Belinda always appeared for classes and student film shoots.

She was an upcoming script writer and cinematographer. Belinda got the opportunity to go for internship in Kampala to be part Sisi Film Collective's new series in development written by the students under the Lab from the different regions in Uganda. Belinda being the ever ready to learn young star, revealed another skill of designing costumes for the series' cast.

We are broken. Her script was chosen for the advanced phase (the last phase of the Lab). Upon return, we kept in touch and broke down the script and even sent to for review and he shared back. She informed us that she wasn't well and was admitted at Arua Regional Referral hospital. "I think I'll be better in a week's time." She old our Admin through a quite steady voice note.

Little did we know the Creator's plans. "Wake up, Belinda. Please, wake up!" We still weep but it's well with your soul. May the Angels receive you with flowers and continue to Rest In Peace.
To us , you are a every Cohort will learn about and cerebrate you for your profound dedication and commitment. We love you and will forever be missed.
