The Rotary Club of Lubowa has awarded Counsel Kigozi Kenneth Lubwama the Vocational Service Award in appreciation of his work in advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities.
Joyce Mpalanyi Magala, on behalf of the Dean of Assistant Governors for District 9214, Benjamin Bwanika, commended Kigozi for uplifting the lives of persons with disabilities through various organizations and encouraged other persons with disabilities to learn from his works
The ceremony was held at Grace Restaurant in Lubowa and was attended by his parents, friends, and members of the Rotary Club of Lubowa led by President Peter Ssamula, among others.
Kenneth Lubwama Kigozi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his mother, Magarete Kaggwa, who never abandoned him despite the disability he was born with, but instead cared for him and ensured he received an education that enabled him to become who he is today and to receive this recognition.
He said that his journey in advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities began while he was still in school, and he later decided to pursue this cause as a lifelong mission.

Today, 17th December 2025, Mukisa Foundation, an organization that supports, educates, and advocates for people with disabilities in Lungujja-Kampala, held an end-of-year celebration for children with disabilities and distributed Christmas gift packages.

The Foundation’s Executive Director, Florence Namaganda, said the event is part of their annual program aimed at engaging parents of children with disabilities, sharing experiences, offering guidance, and training them on proper child care.

She encouraged parents to remain strong, avoid self-blame, and form support groups to share ideas and solutions concerning their children.

Representing the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Agnes Nampeera urged parents to organize themselves into groups so they can benefit from existing government programs.

Parents thanked Mukisa Foundation for the celebration and the Christmas donations, which included food items and other basic household necessities.

Buganda Kingdom has marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and issued a call to parents to stop the habit of hiding children with disabilities a practice that denies them opportunities and the chance to enjoy life like other children.

At the ceremony held at Bulange Mengo, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Buganda Parliament, Owek. Ahmed Lwasa said that when children with disabilities are not hidden, it gives the government the opportunity to know them and include them in relevant programs from which they can benefit.

The day was commemorated under the theme: “We are all responsible for issues concerning persons with disabilities.”

The Minister for Social Development in Buganda, Owek. Mariam Mayanja Nkalubo, called upon the government to implement laws that enable persons with disabilities to live dignified and fulfilling lives in their own country.

In a message from the Minister of State for Disabilities in the central government, Hon. Hellen Asamo delivered by Muhumuza Prosper she thanked the Buganda Kingdom for prioritizing childhood immunization, which has greatly contributed to the reduction of disability cases.

The Deputy Chairperson of the Buganda Disability Council, Busuulwa Asuman, called for reforms in the way persons with disabilities are treated in public places such as hospitals, places of worship, banks, and other essential service points, so that they can access them without difficulty or discrimination.

The Annual Disability Run, now in its inaugural year, saw a significant turnout of participants, all united in their quest for inclusivity and support for people with disabilities.
The event's chief organizer, Peninah Nakandi, expressed her gratitude to all participants and well-wishers, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in empowering people with disabilities.
Peninah added that she's thrilled to have reached this milestone and couldn't have done it without the support of the sponsors and participants.
Her goa is to mobilize resources to build a disability center that will provide skills training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities and she estimates that they need around 100million shillings to facilitate this project, and appeal to everyone to join hands with them to make this vision a reality.
The run was flagged off by John Kule, representing the Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), in the presence of sponsors and dignitaries. I&M Bank, URA, and Club Governor Moreli Modeling Agency Logics international proudly supported this initiative, demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility.
