I used to promote music. I used to promote music videos. Now, I don’t, unless it has been posted to the page of the artist. I do “repost,” & I do post stories from artist pages. But, as “The Hip Hop Push,” I don’t post music, but I got you on an acapella freestyle. Crazy, right?
I don’t post music videos or photos with music now. I only either post photos of artists, or I’ll make a collage with a photo & a quote.
I don’t think the artists have been too thrilled with my policy change. I definitely didn’t explain it, because I had gotten the information from AI, but I believed it.
In comes Top Music Attorney of Delgado Entertainment Law.
In this video, she explains that: nobody is protecting the artists & the marketers.
She explains that the deal that the streaming companies made with the social media giants, in fact, does NOT cover the content creators, & that creators are expected to purchase Sync licenses. She also mentions creators who are currently being sued. In the end, I was correct to stop posting music.
Previously, I was under the assumption that the distributors (DistroKid, etc) check Intellectual Property Ownership prior to distribution. AI said that’s not true.
In conclusion, until there’s blanket protection for creators & marketers, I’m going to have to stick to photos, collages, & quotes until further notice. I recommend each & every one of you watch this video. Thank you for your time, and thank you to Delgado Entertainment Law Delgado Entertainment Law Top Music Attorney for covering this for everyone.
