This week, the gap just got wider between brands AI can understand and brands it can't.

→ Meta's Muse hits No. 1, and ads may follow the agent
→ Google puts a number on Smart Bidding learning: ~50 conversions
→ Multi-location SEO totals can hide what's really happening
→ Google's "Dive deeper" puts AI between Discover and your click
→ Meta pulls placement controls, and creative becomes the lever

Meet Yahssain Kahn, one of the newest additions to the Silverback Strategies media team.

Yahssain joins us after nearly 7 years in agency and in-house media strategy roles. He got his start in traditional media, scaling demand and measuring the downfunnel impact of mass media placements. His degree in business analytics pulled him toward digital before long.

What attracted him to Silverback was the chance to own client relationships and teach modern measurement to the people who need it most: the ones answerable for the bottom line. "What excites me most about my early months at Silverback is the opportunity to make an immediate impact, build strong relationships with my clients, and drive meaningful results from day one."

Based in Orlando, Yahssain is an NC State grad, a concert ju**ie, and the kind of person who'd rather cook dinner than order it.

Welcome to the jungle, Yahssain. Let's move fast. 🦍

What’s new with AI in marketing this week?

It's changing who's editing your listings, what your customers are typing, and how your ads get clicked. Here’s what happened this week in the digital marketing world:
→ Google now shows what AI has been quietly adding to your Business Profile
→ Search queries are getting longer across our own client portfolio
→ OpenAI is testing ad units that open a conversation instead of a landing page

How do you optimize for *qualified* leads when the average sales cycle is 120 days?

For many industries, like home services, education, and healthcare, the sale almost never happens on the website. Instead, it happens when…

→ A homeowner books the job after an in-home estimate
→ An applicant enrolls months after the first campus visit
→ A patient shows up for a consultation and schedules a procedure

The problem? Ad platforms see none of that.

Platforms see the form fill, the phone call, the brochure download, and they optimize toward more of it. The algorithm gets very good at manufacturing the cheapest possible lead, and the business gets very good at wondering why so few of those leads turn into customers.

In this article, Jordan Crawford breaks down why it’s critical to feed these offline conversions back into ad platforms. This way, you can optimize for your ideal customers. Not junk form fills.

It's been a few months since Nick Quigley joined the Silverback Troop. It's about time we gave him a proper shout-out.

Nick brings nearly a decade of performance marketing experience in home services, finance, insurance and retail. He’s a pro at scaling media strategy profitably for mid-market businesses.

What drew him to Silverback Strategies was our approach to measurement. “What excites me most about my first few months at Silverback is learning the team’s approach to measurement and testing. The team approaches performance from a deeper, more analytical perspective…I’m excited to bring those learnings into the way I manage and optimize campaigns.”

Hailing from upstate New York, Nick is a graduate of SUNY Oswego, a long-suffering New York Rangers fan, and a frequent visitor to the Saratoga Race Track. Outside of work, you can find Nick working on his golf game or attending a Phish concert (he may be the only millennial who has been to 20+ of ‘em).

A belated ‘Welcome to Silverback!’, Nick. We’re glad you’re here. 🦍

Most SEO budgets are built like a factory production line 🏭

The retainer specifies a number of blog posts and a number of pages per month, the agency ships them, and the monthly report counts what got published.

Everyone can see what the money bought. The model is clean, easy to scope, and easy to defend to a finance team that wants to know what it's paying for.

The problem? It’s built for a version of search that's disappearing.

Volume made sense when ranking was a coverage game, when publishing more pages against more keywords reliably captured more traffic. In AI Search, the thing that decides whether you show up is whether the models treat your brand as a credible authority on the subject.

You can't order that by the unit.

What happened in the world this week? 👀

Streaming ads are getting louder, AI traffic is invisible to your dashboard, and Google just leaked its own local ranking playbook. Here's what actually matters for marketers this week:
→ CTV ad loads are up 18%, but more inventory doesn't mean better inventory
→ ChatGPT cracked the top 10 most-visited sites, but GA4 still can't see most of the traffic
→ Your GBP edit is a vote, not a command
→ Google Ads is finally making it easy to connect ad spend to in-store sales

✍️Platforms are quietly rewriting their own rules this week.

The result? Marketers are left reconciling the numbers.

→ Google is testing changes that could scramble how you track rankings and AI citations
→ An AI-generated SEO page cannibalized its own rankings for six months before anyone noticed
→ The FTC and 22 states allege Amazon overrode its own ad auctions; a warning for every marketer trusting platform-reported metrics

RIP Google Display campaigns 🪦

Announced in June 2026, a migration tool moves existing Display campaigns into ‘Demand Gen,’ and by 2027 the standalone campaign type is gone for good.

Most news coverage is treating this as a loss of control.

But for advertisers? It's closer to an upgrade because the control you're losing was wasting a chunk of your budget anyway.
