Drawing on his background as a teacher and historian, Don Teator said he wants people to learn something from the 2027 calendars on Greenville area barns. “Every time I pass a barn, these barns either whisper or speak or shout something about their lives and the lives of the people who live there,” he said. “It’s a reflection of the culture and the society that they have thrived in.”

Teator will give a presentation on the 2027 calendar, “Barns of the Greenville Area,” on Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Greenville Library, located at 11177 Route 32. The presentation is free and open to the public.

A bell was rung at Altamont's Village Hall Friday morning in remembrance of those who died on September 11, 2001. McKownville and Altamont fire departments held ceremonies observing 25 years since the attacks. “Our mandate is to remember this day,” said Tony Cortese, a past chief of the McKownville fire department and a deacon at Christ the King Church. He prayed with a small gathering on Friday morning at McKownville Reservoir Park.

At 90, Anne Mulderry takes a long view of life. Her son was killed in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, and since then she has focused on living a life that faces grief while holding onto joy.

She would like to see the terrorists imprisoned for the rest of their lives, but she does not like to see the United States turn away from international law, toward torture and black sites. “I wish the United States hadn’t lost its lodestar, its integrity, after 9/11,” she said.

On Sept. 3, the Town of Bethlehem issued an emergency order to vacate the Albany Center for Independent Living.

Located at 141 Rockefeller Road in Delmar, the facility was opened in 1998 by Good Samaritan, part of the Lutheran Care Network, as Kenwood Manor, and is now run by the Emerald Health Care Group, based in New Jersey.

Emerald representatives have said they want to “work cooperatively with the town to address the issues,” Mark Sweeney, Bethlehem’s deputy town attorney, told The Enterprise on Sept. 4.

The issues include structural, electrical, elevator, and mold problems in the two-story building with a floor area of about 31,000 square feet.

Scott Abraham has found a new home for a second farmers’ market after he announced on July 3 that his market at the Guilderland library, pictured, would not be opening.

Abraham is opening a market on Aug. 27, on the former College of Saint Rose campus. Abraham has run a market on Saturdays in Washington Park since 2019.

Guilderland will not extend a water line to New Scotland, which New Scotland’s planning board chairman had said was needed for a proposed battery-energy storage project to proceed.

The proposal on Wormer Road, mere feet from the town line separating Guilderland from New Scotland, pulled Guilderland board members into an ongoing feud over the placement of a storage system at 37 Wormer Road.

The 13.8-acre parcel is located in a residential area and owned by New Scotland Councilman Adam Greenberg. New Leaf Energy’s five-megawatt facility proposal is currently tabled pending the company’s ability to address water access needed for fire protection.

New Scotland’s battery-energy storage system experiences could be characterized as government efficiency at its best. The town, like it had in 2017 with solar, saw battery-storage facilities were going to be an issue everywhere, and decided to get out in front of it.
