Before you sponsor that local 5K, right-click one of last year's sponsor logos. 🔍

If it doesn't go anywhere, it's a picture, not a link. We checked three North Carolina race sponsor pages last month and all three had zero outbound sponsor links. Same race software in New Jersey had working links. The difference was whether the organizer typed a URL into a form.

New guide covers how to pick the right event, what to ask before you pay, and the budget rule that keeps you from spending $700 on a race when a $665 builders association membership would do more.

Most electrician websites say "residential and commercial electrical services" and call it done.

That tells a homeowner you exist. It doesn't tell them you're the right call for their panel upgrade. 🔌

Google LSA ads are the best first dollar a contractor can spend on paid advertising. 🔧

You show up above the map pack. You only pay when someone calls. They reached out to you — not the other way around.

But most contractors launch with default settings, never adjust them, and then wonder why the leads feel expensive. It's almost always a targeting problem, not an ad problem.

This week's Momentum Brief breaks down the three settings to fix before you spend another dollar on LSA — service area, ad schedule, and job categories.

Your most loyal customers would refer you to anyone. But there's one group they can never reach: strangers.

Word of mouth only travels through existing relationships. Once your best customer has sent every referral they can, that's the ceiling. The homeowners outside your network — searching right now, phone in hand — they'll never hear your name unless you show up where they're looking.

That's what Issue #10 of The Momentum Brief is about: The Network Ceiling. What it is, why it limits referral-dependent contractors, and the three things you can do this week to start showing up for strangers.

ChatGPT is recommending local contractors right now. Is your name coming up?

It's not pulling from Google. It's reading Yelp, Bing Places, Apple Maps, and BBB to decide who to recommend. If your profiles on those platforms are stale or missing, you're not showing up.

We broke down exactly which platforms matter most for AI visibility, why each one counts, and what to audit today. No big overhaul needed. Most contractors can close the main gaps in a few hours.

There's a belief that once your Google Business Profile is verified, the hard part is done. It's not.

Verification is just the starting line. The contractors showing up at the top of Google Maps are the ones treating their profile like a tool they actively use — replying to reviews, adding job photos, updating their services, keeping their hours accurate. Google notices when you're engaged and when you've gone quiet. An abandoned profile and an active one can have the same number of reviews and still rank completely differently.

If you haven't logged into your GBP in the last 30 days, that's worth changing this week.

We're proud to sponsor the HopeKids North Carolina Golf Tournament on August 10, 2026.

HopeKids serves families who have a child with cancer or another life-threatening medical condition. They provide free, ongoing events that give these families something to look forward to — and a community of people who truly understand what they're going through.

The tournament takes place at The Club at Longview in Waxhaw, NC. It's a half-day scramble on a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course with breakfast, prizes, a hole-in-one contest with a $10,000 prize, and a post-round reception with HopeKids families.
Foursomes and sponsorships are still available. Registration closes July 27.

If you're a North Carolina business owner or contractor, this is a great way to show up for your community in a real way.

🗺️ Big news for local contractors — Apple Maps is about to become a paid ad channel.

Apple just announced that ads on Apple Maps are coming soon in the U.S. and Canada.

That means when a homeowner in your service area opens Apple Maps and searches "electrician near me" or "HVAC company", your business can show up at the top, right when they're deciding who to call.

Here's why this matters for home service contractors:
→ Apple users are high-intent buyers. They're not browsing. They're actively searching for a business like yours.
→ You control the budget. Start, stop, and scale on your own terms — no long-term contracts.
→ One tap takes them straight to action. Call, get directions, or request service — all without leaving the app.
→ It's privacy-first. No creepy retargeting. Just contextual ads shown to people searching for what you offer.

This is demand capture at its purest — showing up for buyers who are already looking.

We're already tracking this for our contractor clients and building it into our add-on service lineup for this summer.

Want to make sure you're positioned before your competitors even know this exists?

If you’re a contractor in Asheville, “join a networking group” isn’t bad advice—but it’s incomplete.

Some groups are better for homeowners and local-first buyers. Others are better for B2B referrals and reputation. A few are built specifically for builders and trades.

I broke down six local organizations—what they cost, what you get listed on, and whether the payoff is more leads or more relationships.

Exciting News for Home Service Contractors! 🚀

Introducing "The Momentum Brief" - your new go-to resource for sustainable growth without breaking the bank!

Every Friday, we deliver one powerful idea to help you get found without paying for every lead. This week, we're diving into why we started this journey and the meaning behind our name.

Having worked with HVAC companies, plumbers, electricians, and contractors across the Southeast, I've noticed a common challenge. These businesses excel in their work, but when referrals slow or big jobs fall through, the phone goes silent. The typical advice? "Run more ads." But that's not a strategy - it's a treadmill.

The Momentum Brief is here to offer a better way. It might be slower at first, but it builds a strong foundation. Every service page you create, every Google profile you optimize, every piece of content you publish works for you, even when you're busy on a job. Over time, you'll stop chasing work - work will start finding you.

Join us on this journey to fill your board and reduce dependency on referrals. Let's build momentum together! đź’Ş
