POV: you're at the Governor's mansion and a tornado warning hits mid-reception. 🌪️😅

Mike and I had the honor of joining Governor Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers at the Year of the Neighbor Celebration last week. I was surprised by the art. It was local artists and super interesting. Also the treats were really good and it was nice catching up with DHS Secretary Kirsten Johnson. She's been a great cheerleader as we talk and advocate for affordable healthcare for Wisconsin small business owners because car washers and detailers (and other businesses too of course, haha) deserve to grow their businesses without healthcare holding them back.

Grateful, full of snacks, and only slightly windblown. 💙

Rooted in Recovery, replanting Menasha, Neenah & Appleton

The tornado changed our landscape in a matter of minutes, taking down countless trees from yards, streets, parks and neighborhoods. Now, we have an opportunity to help our communities grow back greener and stronger. We’re working with Yellow River Nursery to order replacement trees for next spring, organize pickup and build a volunteer crew to help get them planted.

Hey everyone! Our phones are down today because the cell towers near our office are down. We still have Wi-Fi and can make it to our meetings, but we can’t receive calls or text messages right now. We are incredibly thankful that we only experienced minimal damage, but our hearts are breaking for so many people in our community. We are also so thankful there have been no reported fatalities. In fact, we even had a birth! Mel’s little sister had a tornado baby yesterday!

Yesterday was just weird, emotional and a little surreal. Today, we’re doing our best to get back on track.

It has been amazing to see how many people are stepping up to help. People are donating, cleaning up, checking on neighbors and doing whatever they can. This morning, we even saw a tree removal company from Minnesota that came here to help clear the damage. The generosity has been incredible. It really shows how people in the Midwest come together, even when they’re dealing with so much themselves.

Thanks for being patient with us today!
