Idaho Springs, 1400 block of Miner Street looking East. Photos taken in 1911 and 2018.

Miner Street in Idaho Springs, CO, is the heart of a 1983-designated National Historic District, featuring brick buildings from 1877–1920 that reflect its gold-rush origins. George A Jackson discovered Gold along Clear Creek in January 1859. Miner Street developed to serve the miners and businesses that flocked to the area.

The arrival of the railroad in 1877 bolstered the town as a supply center, leading to the construction of permanent, two-story brick commercial buildings that dominate the street today.

The buildings primarily represent late Victorian/early 20th-century commercial styles, which were built to replace early false-front wooden structures. Many storefronts still have historic plaques highlighting their past roles as saloons, banks, and hardware stores.

Designated a National Historic District in 1983, the area is protected to maintain its unique, historic character.

While retaining its historic charm, Miner Street has transitioned into a commercial center for tourists and locals. The "Miner Street Market" was introduced in 2020, offering outdoor dining, retail, and community. (Source: Google AI overview)
