About 30% of our time is spent daydreaming. 💭 We’re staring out the window thinking about the upcoming weekend, what we need to cook for dinner, or chasing the wild turkeys in the yard (oh wait, that’s probably just Sunny’s daydream.) 😉

What’s the one time we aren’t daydreaming? 👀 When we’re engaged in a story. Think about the last Netflix show you binged, the novel you couldn’t put down, or the movie that was so engrossing you didn’t pick up your phone even once.

That’s why story is such a powerful tool for captivating people’s attention. You can employ the same techniques used by screenwriters and novelists in your marketing. When you tap into the power of story, you move customers to action.

When it comes to your marketing, you want to hone in on the problem you solve for customers or clients. Offer them a solution or answer to that problem. Share your expertise as a helpful guide who can transform their life or business and lead them to a successful outcome.

If you’re struggling to stand out in a noisy world, you need a new way to talk about your business. Good news! 👏 I have a way for you to create simple soundbites that communicate exactly what you do and how you can help your customers.

Marketing is about reaching the right people with the right message in the right places. So how do you reach the right people?

Here's a simple 3-step process to get you started. I used this assessment as part of a client strategy workshop I facilitated in January. The team unlocked a lot of insights about where to focus their efforts.

👉 Step 1: Pull a list of clients and customers from the last year or so. If you’re a consultant, you might have 10 or 15. If you’re a larger company with more customers, pull a list from the last 6 months.

👉 Step 2: Grade each client A, B, C, or D. Consider how easy the client was to work with, profitability of the engagement or order, and likelihood of repeat business or a long-term retainer.

👉 Step 3: Focus on the A clients. What do they have in common? It might be industry, size, or type of order. Don’t overlook subtle similarities. For example, do they all invest in business coaching? Are they active on LinkedIn? Are they female-led businesses?

With this information, you can build a specific customer profile. Focus your marketing efforts on reaching these A clients and customers.

Don't try to be all things to all people. Instead, reach the people who are interested in what you have to offer. When you know your audience, you can create marketing that is focused, intentional, and effective.

Try it and let me know what you discovered!

Picture this: A customer finishes working with you and immediately texts three friends to tell them about the experience.

Not because you asked them to. Not because of a referral incentive. Because the experience was so genuinely good they couldn't help themselves. 🤩

That's what Unreasonable Hospitality looks like in practice — and it's exactly what we're going to work on in the Spring Book Club.

Join with other professionals to read "Unreasonable Hospitality" by Will Guidara. Then, over three weeks, we'll gather to talk about what we learned and brainstorm ways to add more hospitality to your business.

Walk away with real ideas for your specific business. As an Unreasonable Hospitality Coach, I can tell you how powerful this concept can be for you, your team, and your customers. Don't miss this!

Our first session is at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 8. Save your spot for just $47. And if you're one of the first 5 to sign up, you'll get a free copy of the book.

Would you agree most businesses do a decent job when it comes to serving customers? They answer emails. They provide what you paid for. They're kind and courteous.

But in today's competitive world, decent doesn't cut it. We have to go beyond "good enough" service and focus on hospitality.

Hospitality is about creating truly memorable customer experiences. It's about making sure your clients are genuinely seen, valued, and taken care of.

Hospitality is what creates raving fans and strong referrals. That's a powerful marketing tool.

So what does it mean to create a culture a unreasonable hospitality? What could that look like for your business?

Those are the questions and conversations we'll unpack in the Unreasonable Hospitality Spring Book Club. This is a 3-week book club to help you understand how to create a culture of hospitality and build an action plan for the spring season and beyond.

Here's how it works:
👉 Save your seat and grab a copy of “Unreasonable Hospitality” by Will Guidara from your favorite bookseller.
📒 Read the assigned chapters each week.
💡 Come to a LIVE virtual meeting for a discussion on what you learned, top takeaways, and how you can apply Unreasonable Hospitality to your business.

Save the date for 3 live virtual sessions: 2 p.m. ET Wednesdays on April 8, April 15, and April 22.

Join the Unreasonable Hospitality Spring Book Club for $47. As a bonus, the first 5 people to sign up get free copy of the book.

💬 What if you could easily boost your referral business? What would that mean for your bottom line?

Many businesses rely on referrals as a major source of leads. I know I certainly appreciate it when a past client refers me to someone in need of marketing services. I bet you value those referrals too.

📢 How do you create raving fans eager to talk about your organization?

Put me in front of a whiteboard, hand me a marker, and I am one happy camper. 😃 Brainstorming marketing content, talking about strategy, and digging into ideal customer profiles is so much fun.

Earlier this year, I had the chance to spend a day doing just that with Charleston Cotton Exchange. We packed a lot into one day, and the team walked away with a solid plan, fresh ideas, and renewed energy for how to market and grow the business. [See smiling faces as evidence!]

Could your team benefit from a marketing strategy session? The answer is YES if:
👉 Your marketing efforts are scattered and ineffective.
👉 Your team is chasing every new idea with no strategy.
👉 Your business is solid but not growing the way it should.
👉 The quality of your marketing doesn’t reflect the quality of your work.
👉 You struggle to communicate what you do and/or how you help customers.

If you’re reading that list, thinking, “Sounds like us!” then a marketing strategy session is just what you need. Let's take a day to focus on your marketing so you walk away energized and with a clear path forward.

✅ We can accomplish in one day what takes most teams weeks or months to do. If you’re struggling with clarity, strategy, and overall momentum, a marketing strategy session is the answer.

Here’s a question I hear often from business owners and entrepreneurs. In fact, it came up twice last week! I bet you've asked this exact same question.

🤔 How do I balance showing up in all the places (social media, email, video, blogs, podcasts)?

An excellent question! This idea that organizations and business owners need to market on every available channel contributes to the No. 1 marketing challenge: overwhelm. 😳

Most small businesses and solopreneurs don’t have the bandwidth to be everywhere. Yet, they believe that’s the only way to be successful in marketing. They’re left feeling guilty for not doing more and overwhelmed by the thought of adding one more thing to their to-do list. Ugh.

📢 I have GREAT news! You don’t have to be in all the places. I’m giving you permission to show up only in the right places and on the platforms that matter to your business.

Permission slip granted!

I would rather see you commit to one or two areas and do them really well instead of engaging in mediocre marketing on a dozen platforms.

Pretty sure I just heard a bunch of business owners sigh with relief. 🙌

Marketing is about reaching the right people with the right message in the right places. Permission to be in the right places, not all the places.

🚨 What marketing trend has your attention right now? In my latest blog post, I highlight 5 marketing trends I think businesses should be watching in 2026.

👀 Here’s a quick recap:

1. AI as a time-saving marketing tool. How can you use AI to increase productivity and automate menial tasks without letting it take over?

2. Human created content. In any content you create, insert your own stories, thoughts, or brand personality.

3. In-person events and connection. You could host an event, a retreat, or a conference. Yes, in-person events are more expensive and time consuming to plan, but depending on your business and specific clients, this could be a huge win for you in 2026.

4. Video still reigns supreme. Video has dominated our marketing conversations for years. In 2026, short-form video deserves your attention (think Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok).

5. Spaghetti marketing is a drain on your resources. Make this the year you focus on strategy and creating a plan that actually works for your specific business.

❓ What would you add to the list? Where are you putting your attention?

👉 Head over to my blog for the full breakdown plus a few bonus marketing ideas I’m keeping an eye on this year: https://fisher-creative.com/5-marketing-trends-businesses-should-watch-in-2026/

I hear we're all taking a look back at 2016.

Thank goodness for phone photos to help me remember what a great year that was.

🙌 I had so many amazing clients in Charleston – many of them nonprofits with incredible causes and fundraising events.

💪 I turned 40 that year (so I’ll let you figure out what’s happening this year) and got my Challenger named Fran.

🎨 We did all sorts of fun family events and trips. My daughter (who is turning 18 next week!) won her first art award ... now one of many!

🏰 And, a big highlight was serving as Disney parade grand marshals with our best friends who live in Florida.

📌 My work has evolved so much in the last decade as I became certified as a Guide, shifted to more strategy and messaging, and leaned into my favorite role as a workshop facilitator.

What a wonderful reminder to pause and remember. 🎉 We get so caught up in the day to day, it’s easy to forget about all the incredible experiences we’ve had.

🫵 What were you doing in 2016? How has your life or work evolved in the last decade?
