I'm digging into the concept of AI search or AEO. I’m reading articles and watching webinars about what it means to create content that gets found and cited by AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity.

It’s fascinating how the advice and best practices are both new and not new.

Here are some things I see that are NEW:
📌 People are turning to AI for advice, research, and answers to their questions.
📌 Searches are ending with a Google AI summary or an answer from ChatGPT.
📌 The importance of formatting content so it’s easy for AI bots to read and recommend (and that’s a little different from how we might format for SEO only).

What’s NOT NEW:
📌 Building a brand that’s credible and trustworthy. AI places a high value on brand authority, including reviews and mentions across multiple platforms.
📌 Writing for humans. Write content that’s helpful and real – the AI bots will find it.
📌 Providing value. In a recent webinar SEO expert Neil Patel said, “Don’t put out junk.” Yes! I’ve said the same thing for years. Give people good, valuable content. They’ll be happy. And, by default, search engines and now AI bots will be happy too.
📌 Lastly, clarity. Having a clear message so people know exactly how you can help them remains a foundational marketing principle.

If you're struggling with clarity, DM me! I'll love to invite you to a free training I'm hosting on June 19.

What are your thoughts on AI citations. Are you paying attention to this? Is this new information? What are your biggest questions or concerns? 👇

Every business solves a problem. It might be a practical problem like “what’s for lunch?” It could be a more emotional problem like financial peace of mind for your family’s future. Or it’s a philosophical problem like everyone deserves access to mental health services.

Is your business known for solving a problem? 🤔

Taking the time to really think about the problem you solve for your clients and customers is a valuable exercise.

Try this:
📌 Make a list of the problems you can solve for your customers.
📌 Look at that list and think about which problems your customers actually name. What do you hear from them?
📌 Narrow your list to one problem. Just one.

Now, talk about that problem in your marketing and then offer your product or service as a solution to that problem. Test it out and see how it resonates with your potential customers and clients.

As a business, you want to be known for solving a specific problem. You want people to say, “If you’re struggling with X, this company has the answer.” Are you known for solving a problem?

Share the ONE problem you solve in the comments!

Clarity. Consistency. Confidence. Those three words have been buzzing around my brain after being an on-site coach at two StoryBrand Your Business workshops in Nashville recently.

About 100 business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs spent two days hearing from Donald Miller, author of "Building a StoryBrand.” They drafted a clear message using the Soundbite Strategy and then brainstormed how they would use those soundbites in a messaging campaign.

Getting clear on how you talk about your business isn’t easy. Narrowing your work down to one problem you solve for your customers takes some real thought and conversation. Working through that with someone outside your business is so helpful. It’s harder to be clear when you’re close to what you do. But it’s worth it. Clarity wins. 💡

Once you’ve gotten crystal clear on your message, it’s all about consistency. You have to repeat your soundbites and talk -- all the time and everywhere -- about the (one!) problem you solve. 💬

And that leads me to the final concept: confidence. 💪 When you’re confident in that clear message, you’re comfortable sharing it over and over again. As a business owner, you feel confident when you’re talking about your business in a way that connects with your customers.

It was exciting to be in the room with businesses of all shapes and sizes and in all sorts of industries. I talked with an eye doctor, a dentist, financial planner, software developers, a woman who plans a conference on workers’ comp, health and fitness professionals, and more.

The energy and passion was like a shot in the arm. It reminded me how incredible it is to work with organizations to create a clear message, build a messaging campaign, and level up customer experiences. 🤩

👉 Could you use a shot of clarity, consistency, and confidence in your marketing?

About 30% of our time is spent daydreaming. 💭 We’re staring out the window thinking about the upcoming weekend, what we need to cook for dinner, or chasing the wild turkeys in the yard (oh wait, that’s probably just Sunny’s daydream.) 😉

What’s the one time we aren’t daydreaming? 👀 When we’re engaged in a story. Think about the last Netflix show you binged, the novel you couldn’t put down, or the movie that was so engrossing you didn’t pick up your phone even once.

That’s why story is such a powerful tool for captivating people’s attention. You can employ the same techniques used by screenwriters and novelists in your marketing. When you tap into the power of story, you move customers to action.

When it comes to your marketing, you want to hone in on the problem you solve for customers or clients. Offer them a solution or answer to that problem. Share your expertise as a helpful guide who can transform their life or business and lead them to a successful outcome.

If you’re struggling to stand out in a noisy world, you need a new way to talk about your business. Good news! 👏 I have a way for you to create simple soundbites that communicate exactly what you do and how you can help your customers.

Marketing is about reaching the right people with the right message in the right places. So how do you reach the right people?

Here's a simple 3-step process to get you started. I used this assessment as part of a client strategy workshop I facilitated in January. The team unlocked a lot of insights about where to focus their efforts.

👉 Step 1: Pull a list of clients and customers from the last year or so. If you’re a consultant, you might have 10 or 15. If you’re a larger company with more customers, pull a list from the last 6 months.

👉 Step 2: Grade each client A, B, C, or D. Consider how easy the client was to work with, profitability of the engagement or order, and likelihood of repeat business or a long-term retainer.

👉 Step 3: Focus on the A clients. What do they have in common? It might be industry, size, or type of order. Don’t overlook subtle similarities. For example, do they all invest in business coaching? Are they active on LinkedIn? Are they female-led businesses?

With this information, you can build a specific customer profile. Focus your marketing efforts on reaching these A clients and customers.

Don't try to be all things to all people. Instead, reach the people who are interested in what you have to offer. When you know your audience, you can create marketing that is focused, intentional, and effective.

Try it and let me know what you discovered!

Picture this: A customer finishes working with you and immediately texts three friends to tell them about the experience.

Not because you asked them to. Not because of a referral incentive. Because the experience was so genuinely good they couldn't help themselves. 🤩

Would you agree most businesses do a decent job when it comes to serving customers? They answer emails. They provide what you paid for. They're kind and courteous.

But in today's competitive world, decent doesn't cut it. We have to go beyond "good enough" service and focus on hospitality.

Hospitality is about creating truly memorable customer experiences. It's about making sure your clients are genuinely seen, valued, and taken care of.

Hospitality is what creates raving fans and strong referrals. That's a powerful marketing tool.

So what does it mean to create a culture a unreasonable hospitality? What could that look like for your business?

Those are the questions and conversations we'll unpack in the Unreasonable Hospitality Spring Book Club. This is a 3-week book club to help you understand how to create a culture of hospitality and build an action plan for the spring season and beyond.

Here's how it works:
👉 Save your seat and grab a copy of “Unreasonable Hospitality” by Will Guidara from your favorite bookseller.
📒 Read the assigned chapters each week.
💡 Come to a LIVE virtual meeting for a discussion on what you learned, top takeaways, and how you can apply Unreasonable Hospitality to your business.

Save the date for 3 live virtual sessions: 2 p.m. ET Wednesdays on April 8, April 15, and April 22.

💬 What if you could easily boost your referral business? What would that mean for your bottom line?

Many businesses rely on referrals as a major source of leads. I know I certainly appreciate it when a past client refers me to someone in need of marketing services. I bet you value those referrals too.

📢 How do you create raving fans eager to talk about your organization?
