I love Connect Four.

Not because it’s simple.
Because it forces you to think.

You don’t win by dropping pieces randomly.
You win by seeing what connects.

And honestly? That’s community too.

You can’t just show up once.
You can’t just launch something and call it engagement.
You can’t just move fast and hope trust forms.

You watch the board.
You pay attention to what’s building.
You think two moves ahead.

The best players aren’t loud.
They’re strategic.

That’s what this week’s issue is about…positioning, patience, and building something that actually holds.

If you’re serious about community and not just activity, take a few minutes and read it.

Then come back and tell me what you’re building toward.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about trust.

Not the kind we talk about in mission statements or slogans — but the kind people feel when they walk into a space, a meeting, or a conversation with their community.

I’ve been diving deeper into what trust really looks like, especially when it comes to community.

And what I keep seeing is this:

Trust doesn’t usually break in a moment.
It breaks in patterns.

In what people experienced before they ever showed up.
In what happens when leadership isn’t in the room.
In whether systems protect people — or protect comfort.

That’s why I don’t see trust as a vibe or a feeling anymore.

I see it as an operating condition.

One that’s shaped by consistency.
By accountability.
By design.

So when engagement fails, I don’t ask, “Why didn’t people show up more?”
I ask, “What conditions were they asked to walk into?”

Because trust isn’t earned by asking harder.
It’s built by designing better.

Trust didn’t break because of that person.

It broke because the space around them made honesty expensive.

But sure.
Blame the individual.
That’s easier than fixing the environment.

I did a thing.

I started a newsletter.
And honestly, it’s my baby.

It holds my heart, my passion, and my why.
The work of building stronger communities, both within ourselves and beyond us.

This isn’t a place for comfort.
It’s a place for reflection.

As you read, you might see yourself.
You might see someone you know.
You might feel encouraged.
You might feel convicted.

Either way, I hope it resonates enough to make you pause…
and brave enough to share.

The Neighborhood Table is a free space for anyone willing to sit with differences, start honest conversations, and take action to build bridges where gaps exist.

If you’re ready to pull up a chair, there’s room.

Community is rebuilt the same way it always has been. From the ground up.
With faith. With courage. With action.

Scripture reminds us that the faith of a mustard seed can move mountains. Not because it’s loud. Not because it’s perfect. But because it’s planted, nurtured, and believed in.

That’s what rebuilding community looks like right now.

We can no longer allow toxic cultures, destructive views, or the uncontrollable actions of others to erode the very thing God has blessed us with. Community was never meant to be fragile. It was meant to be cultivated.

If you’re like me and you’re tired of living in times marked by confusion, division, and broken spaces, then this is our moment. Not to complain louder, but to live better. Not to mirror the chaos, but to model something stronger.

The positive still outweighs the negative.
But only if we’re willing to show it.

We’re all on here sharing messages.
Telling stories.
Influencing conversations.

But it’s time we stop measuring impact by likes and start measuring it by change. By healing. By restored trust. By people choosing connection over distance.

Today, I pray for trust to be rebuilt.
I pray for communities to be restored.
And I pray for those courageous enough to stand up, slay the dragons of fear and silence, and fight the good fight for what is right.

Because faith without action doesn’t rebuild anything.
And community without courage doesn’t survive.

May we be people who plant the seed.
Water it daily.
And believe that what grows from it can change everything.

“The village raised me. But the village looks different now.”

Teachers are overwhelmed.
Parents are juggling survival.
Pastors are pulled between pressure and purpose.
And truth is, many of the communities we grew up in no longer exist the way they used to.

I’ve read the posts.
“It’s the parents’ job to teach their kids how to interact with law enforcement.”
And while I don’t completely disagree, I can’t ignore this:

If the parent isn’t teaching it…
If the teacher isn’t equipped to teach it…
If the church isn’t touching it…
Then who is?

For many, social media becomes the classroom. And that’s a dangerous gap.

So instead of blaming the community, we must educate it.

In schools. In neighborhoods. With parents. With youth.

Because trust won’t be built by assumption, it’ll be built through action.

And before all my law enforcement folks jump in to say, “that’s not our job” let me ask you: who taught you?
Who taught you about the law?
Who taught you about rights?
Was it your parents, the teachers, or the instructors in the academy?

Truth is, it wasn’t just one person.
It was the village.
It was the community.

So don’t dismiss the role you now play in someone else’s learning.

Because the badge doesn’t excuse us from the village, it places us in the middle of it.

Is AI helping us build community or just faking connection with “professional tone” words and perfect prompts?

Don’t get me wrong I use AI and I love it.
It keeps my ideas organized, my time efficient, and elevates my brainstorming.

But there’s nothing like pen to paper.
My inspiration isn’t manufactured and my words feel more interconnected.

Lately, I’ve been reading content and find myself looking between the letters and lines of text to find the author’s authenticity.

Like will I know these words to really be theirs or will I see dashes and emojis that overshadow their true message.

I’m not anti-AI. But I am anti losing your voice to convenience.

Just remember…AI is the tool and not the storyteller.

Because some messages were assigned to you and not to the machine.

Too many people confuse correction with criticism and that’s where growth stops.

The truth is, the mirror doesn’t lie.
It just reflects what needs to change.

The people who challenge you aren’t attacking you. They’re helping you see your blind spots. Pride will tell you to reject it. Growth will tell you to pause, reflect, and do better.

As a leader, as a friend, as a human, correction is necessary. Not to tear you down but to build you up. Because you can’t build trust with others if you’re not willing to be honest with yourself.

Correction isn’t an attack, it’s the mirror your ego avoids.

Save this. Sit with it. Share it with someone who needs it.

A few months ago, I hit a wall.
Not physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

I was doing all the right things—showing up, serving my department, pouring into the community, staying visible, being everything to everyone.
But inside? I was drained.

I kept telling myself, “This is the job. This is what leadership looks like.”
But the truth was—I had been building community while quietly neglecting my own.

And that’s when the self-realization hit:
You can’t build real community if you’re neglecting the one within.

We focus so much on those we serve—but forget to check in on the person doing the serving.

You can’t lead well, connect deeply, or serve fully when you’re pouring from an empty cup.
The work starts in you—before it ever reaches them.

Take care of your internal foundation.
Because the impact you’re called to make depends on it.

March Madness isn’t just about buzzer-beaters and bracket busters. It’s about strategy, resilience, and the power of showing up for your team. But what if your first team is YOU?

We often talk about building community, but the real championship starts within. You can’t pour into others if your own cup is empty. Self-trust. Self-awareness. Self-care. These are your fundamentals.

Ask yourself:
• Are you practicing the basics daily?
• Do you trust yourself to take the winning shot when the pressure’s on?
• Can you bounce back after a loss and still believe in your game plan?

This March, let’s focus on building a Community of One; where confidence, clarity, and commitment become your MVPs. Because the best teams win when each player does the work on and off the court.

Drop a 🏀 if you’re committed to being your own this season. Let’s get in the game—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

“The world grows when you do.”

Too often, we search for change outside—new opportunities, better relationships, a different environment.

But growth doesn’t start out there.
It starts within.

If you want more love in the world, plant compassion in your heart.
If you want more peace, plant understanding.
If you want more progress, plant discipline.

Your internal growth shapes your external reality.

Every mindset shift, every lesson learned, every moment of self-reflection is a seed planted.

Water them with patience.
Nurture them with consistency.
Watch the world around you transform.

Growth is an inside job with an outside impact.

So, what seeds are you planting today?
