Frank P. Rogers’ Grocery – A Family Legacy of Wealth-Building 🏪
Did you know that one of Marietta’s first Black-owned businesses was Rogers’ Grocery? Owned by Frank Rogers, it flourished in the 1880s, making $40–$50 a week in sales—a major success at the time! Frank was also a real estate investor and even ran a dance hall. His legacy reminds us that Black business ownership has deep roots in Marietta’s history.

In the 1880s, Andrew Rogers was a powerhouse in Marietta’s Black business community. He and his brother Frank owned a thriving barber shop in the Masonic building, which served an all-white clientele, as was common in the segregated South.

But Rogers was more than a businessman—he was a visionary. As an early investor in the First National Bank and the organizer of a Black string band, he helped shape both the financial and cultural landscape of Marietta.

His legacy reminds us of the resilience and strategic brilliance of Black entrepreneurs who navigated systemic barriers to build wealth and community. 💼🎶
