The recent 20th commemoration of the deaths at the Fulton County Courthouse reminded me of the time I served as public information officer at the Fulton County Superior Court. I found myself at the forefront of ensuring that the community received honest, clear, and compassionate communication during the Brian Nichols murder case because I believe that even in the darkest hours, truth can spark hope and renewal.
Blessed be the memories of Judge Rowland Barnes, 64, Fulton County Superior Court Judge; Julie Brandau, 46, Court Reporter; Deputy Sgt. Hoyt Teasley, 43, Fulton County Sheriff's Deputy; and David Wilhelm, 40, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent. Their loss remains a somber reminder of the importance of safety and justice in our legal systems.
I also remember the heroism of Deputy Cynthia Hall who was gravely wounded by Nichols prior to the shooting spree. Her continued recovery is a reminder of the resilience and sacrifices of those in law enforcement.

Over the next few days, weeks and maybe even months we need to be very careful about the information that we pass along about the election of our next president.
I advised anyone trying to figure out whether something is true or not to go to The Associated Press fact check site.

I know people who work at The Associated Press and having worked with some of them I know them to be people of integrity and dedication.

With early voting underway, false and misleading reports have emerged online. A video circulating widely on social social media shows a man who says he is a Haitian immigrant claiming he is planning to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris multiple times in two Georgia counties, Gwinnett and Fulton.

A recent General Convention resolution referred to gun violence as a public health epidemic. Yet another school shooting. This one at McEachern High School in powder Springs Georgia, which is less than three blocks from our home. What can anyone say about this? There’s no sense to these tragedies. We are all responsible. Proximity to these tragedies does not increase nor lessen the horror, but we all must search our souls for how to make an end to the worship of guns.
One of the high school student’s mother shared a video her daughter took of two shooters as they unloaded on their fellows. What is this doing to our nation, soul and the future of our youth?
And no, I’m not gonna be posting it!
