It was a magical way to wind down our week in Germany. We traveled to Regensburg and took a boat trip down the Danube River Gorge where we landed at the world’s oldest Monasitc brewery.

dates back to 1050 (anno 1050) when beer began brewing, and is still going strong nearly 1,000 years later. We enjoyed many a Dunkel with good friends and partners during our visit. Prost!

Yesterday we made a quick visit to in Frankfurt, Germany to sip some terrific hard apple cider. Possmann, now in its 5th Generation, has been producing cider since 1881, making it one of Germany’s oldest cideries.

Uniqueto Possmann is that they mature and preserve their cider (afpfelwein) underground in de-commissioned German submarines which were used in WWII.

The allies didn’t want to take inventory of them, and didn’t want the submarines to be used again for military purposes…so this was a clever way to make everyone happy and now ensures that every bottle of Possmann cider is as good as the last. Cheers!

On the “right” side of the Rhine river in Cologne, Germany sits one of the original Kölsch breweries dating back to 1830. We visited our friends at the other day and had a great time learning about the history, heritage and qualities of the brewery.

We’re nearing the end of our 2 week trip, but still a few more friends to see in the coming days. Prost!

We had a great time visiting our friends at yesterday. The old brew house now is a restaurant that serves 2.5 million customers a year (wow!), and seats 1900 people - located just outside the shadow of the famous Köln Dom (cathedral) in the heart of the city.

We also toured the impressive facilities where all the beer is made, packaged and shipped. Prost!
