As a drone pilot Sometimes it is better not to be seen.
I have been flying helicopters and drones for a long time and every time fly up there is a good chance that if you are standing out in the open you are going to have someone, man, woman, or concerned Karen approach you and ask what you are doing.
I wish I could say they have all ended happily. So far I have been in 2 physical altercations, been threatened with being shot, beaten up, have the police called on me, followed in cars, had a lady spit in my face while I was flying, and call me a pervert and much worse.
I even had a foolish person try to put me in a sleeper hold when I was foolish enough to let them get behind me.
To be fair not everyone who approaches me when I am flying my drone is looking for trouble, a lot of people are just curious.
When I took this particular shot I had a guy stop on the side of the road and start throwing rocks at the drone. When I asked him why he said that it was a police drone and we were surveilling for big brother.
The look on his face when I brought the drone back, landed it, and put it in my car was priceless.
These instances remind me of how special we all think that we are, how the world and other people revolve around us.
I am certainly not exempt from this falsity. Most people are minding their own business and want nothing to do with you, or even care.
That is sometimes hard to swallow, but necessary if we are going to live the way we need to live. Unafraid of the people surrounding us and what they think.
The worst decisions I have ever made happened because I was pandering to what another person thought.
What would your life be like, if you did not care if people were watching you?
P.S. if you see a drone pilot flying leave them alone, 99 times out of 100 they are just doing their job besides it is dangerous to distract a pilot with a bird in the air.
