I’ve heard some pretty funny questions over the years when I tell people I’m from Costa Rica

I understand it. If you’ve never looked closely at a map, it’s easy to mix up countries, especially when you see beaches, palm trees, and tropical scenery.

But Costa Rica is its own country in Central America, with its own culture, government, cities, mountains, volcanoes, rainforests, and beautiful coastlines.

And no, we’re not part of Mexico.
No, Costa Rica is not an island.
And yes, we are different from Puerto Rico too. 😂

I actually love sharing where I’m from because there’s so much more to Costa Rica than what you see in vacation photos.

So tell me… what’s the funniest question you’ve ever heard about Costa Rica? 👀🇨🇷

Some days I catch myself feeling guilty for not being 100% okay, especially when I have so much to be thankful for.

But gratitude was never meant to erase the hard parts. You can be deeply thankful for your life and still have days that genuinely knock you down. Holding both isn’t a contradiction, it’s just being honest.

Stop making yourself choose between grateful and struggling through something. You’re allowed to be both at once.

Not everyone will understand your pace. That’s okay.
Some people move fast and call it progress. Others move slow and call it wisdom. Neither is wrong, they’re just different clocks.
You don’t owe anyone an explanation for how long something is taking you. Save this for the day someone else’s timeline makes you doubt your own. 🤍

Something I genuinely struggle to understand. Not something I do, and not something I want to.
Who actually decides when expats see the people they love?
I get the reasons, better financial opportunities, better circumstances, sending support back home. But five years, ten years, some people I know, twenty years without seeing family. Parents don’t get younger. Families pass away before they make it back. Kids grow up, and the milestones get missed.
I know immigration status often makes it complicated, that it’s not always a simple choice. But for me, these small moments with family outweigh money.
I wonder if people regret it, once they finally go back and see everything they missed.
Genuinely asking, can anyone help me understand this?

Dreams stay dreams until you take action.
I sat on mine for a long time before I finally started. The fear didn’t disappear first, it got quieter once I actually moved.
Whatever you’ve been sitting on, that’s your sign today. Small steps count.

I’m a different person depending on the language I’m using. Not a small shift, a real one.
In Spanish and LESCO, my first languages, I’m warm, direct, straight to the point. No filter. In English, I’m more careful, more professional, choosing every word before it comes out.
Since moving to the US, I’ve been figuring out who I actually am here, and I’ve learned language plays a real part in that. Spanish and LESCO feel like home. English is a voice I’ve been building since I got here.
