Technically, our 4th anniversary isn't until Friday, but we wanted to go ahead and offer some thoughts on four of the truths when it comes to political and public relations work.

None of us get to where we are without a little help from our friends and in this day and age of selfishness and greed, it is important to acknowledge people who go the extra mile for you. A little bit of gratitude can go a long way.

To run as a political candidate, you must have thick skin. I find it a little ironic to write a post about not taking things personally because I am still trying to improve on that one. But, as a wise person once said, it’s all about “Sucking less every day.”

Mike Franken, who emphasized his ability to garner support from independents and Republicans, beat perceived Democratic frontrunner Abby Finkenauer.

I’m happy to report that Workhorse Strategies is currently undefeated in elections. After winning my first race as a campaign manager by 126 votes a decade ago in rural Iowa, last month I helped squeak out my first victory as a consultant in Texas by the slimmest margin of 87 votes.

There are millions of ways to connect with potential voters, and my advice to any candidate would be not to place all of the proverbial eggs into one basket. Don’t neglect the phone calls, and make sure phones are at least one prong of a multi-faceted direct voter contact strategy.
