Last week I went up to Boston to begin my chapter on the board of Friends of Sports dans la Ville, the recently formed U.S. sister organization for Sports dans la Ville []. Sport dans la Ville is a phenomenal nonprofit in France founded 28 years ago by Philippe Oddou when he opted out of a traditional business career and dove into a career of social entrepreneurship through youth sports.
Today Sports dans la Ville has an extensive and ever-expanding portfolio of youth sports programs, career development programming, and entrepreneurship programming across France and has served 11,000+ youth and adults.
For two days, I was immersed in the mission of Sport dans la Ville and the vibrant and exciting energy of Festival26 in Boston. With lead local partner Boston Scores [] this event brought 320 young people from 30 national delegations around the 🌍 together for a week in Boston during the World Cup. We attended the festive and inspiring opening ceremony for the delegations, held our inaugural Board meeting, and watched the France vs Morocco game with the 320
Festival26 young people plus many hundreds of local fans at a place situated on a wharf where East Boston meets the Boston Harbor. Slide to see the French victory celebration!
I’m honored to be on the team that will bring Sports dans la Ville to the U.S.
through expanded partnerships. And I’m looking forward to working with my fellow board members including Philippe and David Shapiro who are both dear family friends going way back. Philippe and I have shared the great fortune of the French-American branch of our family trees which sprouted when our dads attended business school together in NYC in the late 60’s and has grown stronger and bigger ever since. David joined our family for life in middle school, and today serves as the CEO of .
The joy was flowing as the sun shined bright over Boston (and France!)
