A smokin’ hot week all the way through last week!

Northern Livestock Video Auction kicked off their Summertime Classic sale on Monday. 167,000 hd of cattle and 30,000 hd of sheep offered to a large buying crowd. All three days were about as good as any of us could have imagined. Again, record high prices and tons of takers on all classes of cattle. We saw lots of producers and operators who have weathered the storm through many years of bad markets finally get rewarded with a market better than most have ever imagined. Directly following that sale, I headed west for LiveAg’s video sale in Boise, ID. 21,000 hd of cattle offered from California to Texas, Georgia, up to Michigan and everywhere in between. The market held strong and the demand was high on all of the cattle. Immediately following, I found myself in Dodge City, KS for the King of the Ring auctioneer contest in conjunction with the Cattle Marketing Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The Winter family put on a great event with first-class hospitality. 7 men who have dedicated their whole lives to better our industry were inducted to join a very powerful list of past inductees. 8,100 head of mostly all yearling cattle off grass were offered at the sale the next day. This proved to be an equally strong cash market to back the video prices we saw earlier in the week. Congratulations to my good friend Wade Leist on taking home first place!
